My first reaction was this is awful, but what is going on with Kilian? How can he be absolutely destroying A+ and AA, but barely be a top 30 guy. He has struck out 96 guys in 84 2/3 while walking 9. We're lacking some kind of information.

I find it fascinating to see all of the "we were never going to get much for 2 months of (insert cub here). I remember very

clearly what we gave up for Chapman.

kilian's numbers are insane at aaa this season

at least we're getting a lot of guys ready for the majors

Unless I'm missing something, Kilian isn't in the Giants top 50 on Fangraphs. He does have good numbers...

Nightengale spelled both names wrong, LMAO.

yes, because baez/bryant/rizzo are all comparable to perhaps the best relief pitcher of all time

He was an 8th round pick who had thrown 16 innings prior to this year. Ridiculous numbers but no track record. I think he was the target here.

We literally just traded the best closer of all time today.

Callis just said that Kilian is 90-95, up to 98 this year after getting stronger during the shutdown last year

That's fairly promising with that kind of command

and we got a fine return in that one. which trade are you complaining about?

this all sucks and everyone should be mad, but considering the circumstances, jed's done fine in the trades. did anyone ever expect to get awesome prospects for 2 months of a semi-broken bryant/baez/rizzo?

assuming health, kilian gets a shot in the rotation by next season, right?

Assuming his results continue as-is, I'd say he'd get a mid-season shot next year. He's only got 100 minor league innings.

Yeah I think we're getting thrown off by the outdated fv and prospect rank. One article said they'd put him at 40, maybe even 45. At 45 that would greatly alter the perception of this trade.

Fangraphs is updated though as of the All Star Break though, isn't it?

The market has changed since 2016. And plus Theo also gave up a boatload for Quintana...its clear Theo was willing to overpay for what he felt the Cubs needed

That return is awful. Almost seems like Hoyer waited too long and took the best package left available to him before having to keep Bryant.

Garbage trade, garbage organization.

This is what pisses me off. Watching Bryant cry when finding out he was traded and knowing that the return was underwhelming. You didn't *have* to dump Bryant. Keeping him gives you at least a better chance of re-signing him, and if he doesn't then the worst case scenario is a comp pick. I just don't know why Jed thought he had to dump all 3 for whatever he could get.

*And i like the Rizzo and Kimbrel trades and thought Javy's was ok. But this seems terrible to me.

Per Fangraphs, the Bryant trade bumped the Cubs farm system up from 10th to 9th

They still have just the 1 top 100 prospect

getting major leaguers in the kimbrel trade plus a hurt PCA really killed our chances to move up dramatically.

6 players from the 2016 Cubs World Series roster were traded in the last 24 hours (Bryant, Rizzo, Baez, Lester, Schwarber, Soler).

Another 9 are retired or are not on a ML roster currently (Lackey, Rondon, Strop, T. Wood, Montero, Ross, Russell, Zobrist, Coghlan)

That means 6 of the 16 players from the 2016 Cubs who were available to be traded got traded
