I was actually just coming to post a Bleacher Nation article I just read about Wisdom, funny that this was bumped.

Wisdom has been heating up lately and his K rate is going down. Good breakdown here:

I still dont see him as an everyday player on a contender but he's convinced me that he's a major leaguer. Maybe I'll be proven wrong about the starter thing.

Great guy to have on the bench/PH/DH.

Early on Wisdom's strikeouts were outrageous, and his in zone contact numbers were pretty much the worst in the league. The only reason he was able to make it work is because he was murdering every single ball he put in play. He wasn't lucky, but it wasn't sustainable at all.

Lately his contact numbers have been trending in the right direction, though to be sure they're still very bad. But they're now at a point where he doesn't need to have the very best exit velo in the league to survive. It's a much more real looking profile.

Defensively he's actually really good at third? He's been poor everywhere else, but that's probably just lack of experience. But having a plus glove at third just further raises the floor.

If he doesn't crater from here out, I think you go into the offseason with him slated as the starter at 3B. Though you definitely want to be sure to have a good backup plan regardless. Maybe something like a Jake Lamb stashed at AAA, or a SS who you can slide over to 3B (with Hoerner at SS).

I do expect a competitive team next year and I suspect Wisdom will be penciled in as the starter at either 3B or 1B entering the season. And I think I'm ok with it.

Wisdom's intitial surge ended with the west coast trip through San Fran and San Diego. Since June 11th when the Cubs got back home, he's hitting .239/.308/.465 with a 38% K rate. Combine that with defense that is liked by both the metrics and the eye test, and it really feels like we've found a legit starter here.

ZiPS currently projects wisdom for .234/.300/.465 line, which feels right for what he truly is. Combine that with the defense and I think we have a legit starter at 3B. I would love to add a LH complement if possible over the offseason, but it's not an absolute necessity.
