I can't reconcile all the people saying it would be ridiculous for ownership to handcuff Pace from trading up and then praying Pace plays it boring to not risk the future.

Here's the deal folks. The future isn't going to be bargained away. If they horsefeathers the bed and everybody is fired, the 2022 team is going to suck regardless. Pace came in with an empty cupboard and quickly built a contender. The next guy can do the same thing. I'm usually hesitant to want them to trade up, but I feel like going against the tide here and kind of hope for it. Especially if they lucked into Fields.

Pace hasn't been a garbage drafter. He's bad at value and opportunity cost, but he's taken some good players. And now he actually has a guy with thoughts about offense having input into which QB they draft. I'm kind of excited to see where it goes.

It would be an interesting scenario though obviously would never happen. Packers can move forward with Love and can either draft the 3rd best QB or the best non-QB in the draft.

Ideal scenario would be Fields slipping to the back of the top 10 and the Bears are able to trade up to get him. Trading up to #4 or 6 just seems way too expensive.

Fans just way overestimate the payoff of *tHe fUtuRe*. Whether it's picks or cap space. The NFL is just a race against the deterioration of your current players. Do stuff for now (within some reason obviously).

ngl i'd have taken that trade (if i actually believed in their '20 Love evaluation)

I think any trade up is going to be ridiculously overpriced for the Bears specifically. Everyone knows the coach and GM are on their last legs and are desperate to make an impact move. Add to that Pace's love of throwing draft capital way and if I'm a team negotiating with multiple teams for my pick I'm asking the Bears for a ridiculous haul.

Seems unlikely. I mean, Rodgers has literally never in his life become so frustrated with an organization he spent half his life with that he chose to part ways on bad terms.

Saints reportedly about to trade into the top 10 picks. I really, really don't think they want a QB. Hoping it's Pitts, Jaycee Horn or Chase.

Chase and Pitts will be gone by 6, mayyyyybe 7. And trading what it would take to get up into the top 10 in a draft with 5 legit QB prospects, and then taking a top 15ish overall type corner, would be a bad use of resources imo.

Word is that Payton and Ireland think that this draft is pretty weak past the first 20 picks, so maybe that's the rationale. I mean, past CB, a 3rd WR and a backup LB, they really don't need a whole lot of players to make the team.

Maybe he wants to start his career as Alex Trebek's replacement now. J/K

I just want a QB. There is just no way on Earth that I can get excited about the 2021 Chicago Bears if they don't draft a QB in the first round tonight. Even if its extremely high risk, even if they have to give up a boatload to be in position, I just want a QB. If he fails he fails and nothing has changed. If he succeeds you've solved the most important position in sports for the next decade and can actually start to talk about building a real contender.

So Fields, Lance, Jones, whatever just find a way to get one or the only thing that I have to look forward to in the next year of Chicago sports is the Cubs July sell off

I think Rodgers is 100% done with Green Bay. You do t drop this bomb on draft day unless you’re going through with it

This news may be better for the Bears than the #20 pick itself

This is where I’m at. Really hoping the Niners take Jones and we can trade up to 8, 9, or 12 for Fields or Lance (would prefer Fields, but will take either).

None of it matters, if you don’t have the QB. Take another shot. And it’s not like any of these guys would be an overdraft if taken where the Bears can realistically get to.

I think trading a bunch of picks in order to move up and take the fifth best qb in the draft is a horrible idea.

If someone falls into the teens and the Bears trade a couple picks to move up a few spots to get him, fine.

I still think there’s a very strong chance the Bears starting QB in 2022 won’t be on the roster when they break camp in Bourbonnais in August, and unless someone falls into their laps, that might not be the worst result, long term.
