Is it just me or did that Duffy flyout to Polanco start to look eerily similar to his walkoff dance play a few years ago? He started to stumble a bit

Does Booger's stat of only 3.1% of appearances being for a single batter - was that it ? - ring true? Presumably that does not include starters. But at 5 pitchers a game, which I think is high, that would mean only once in 6.5 or so games does a pitcher only come in to face one batter. That can't be right??

I don't think it's impossible, but it could be saying that only 3.1% of appearances were non-compliant with the current rule, which allows single hitter appearances that end an inning, which feels more accurate to me.

I was walking away from the screen earlier in the game when someone flew out to right. I rushed back when I remembered it was Polanco out there; just in case.

Between this and the rooftop attendance and ancillary business around the park the Ricketts at least made money today! Maybe they’ll spend it on the team some time.

Wouldn't it be even more unlikely if it was non-compliant appearances? That would be more appearances than just single batter appearances, no?

So the Pirates just have a bunch of dominant bullpen arms and we have scrubs every year? Cool.

Based on the sample size of the few times I have payed attention to the Cubs facing their bullpen over the last 3+-ish years, I can safely say the Pirates manage to trot out a collection of tricky pitchers and dominant fireballers season after season.

True, I didn't phrase that eloquently. In my head I was thinking 'non-compliant single batter appearances' and not lumping in 2 batter appearances.

The Cubs have the Pitch Lab - so there’s that.
