Titled “Beyond The Last Dance” and produced by Pushkin Industries in association with NBA Entertainment and Jordan’s representatives, Adande and Armstrong examine a different theme within “The Last Dance” universe for each 40-minute episode. The themes include the origins of Jordan’s competitive drive, the nature of rivalries, Phil Jackson’s coaching philosophy, the influence of foreign players in the league, sports and society, among other topics.

“This is for all the people that watched ‘The Last Dance’ on Sunday nights and came away wanting more,” said Adande, who appeared in “The Last Dance.” “It was an outstanding documentary and 10 hours is a lot, but I also think it whet the appetite for a lot of people. The podcast specifically addresses those people who were fascinated and felt like they wanted more. What we can give you is content that they could not get to during the hours they had available to them as well as bring the story forward to today.”

Easily the most notable audio part of this new podcast is the inclusion of interviews conducted by “The Last Dance” production team that did not ultimately air during the televised series.

Each episode begins with an essay from Adande around a central theme. Avirgan said that is where podcast gets to expand on some of the big ideas from “The Last Dance.” Then comes a transition into a conversation with Adande and Armstrong around that theme, and an interview with a notable NBA insider — often a former player or coach — to expand on the ideas. “Beyond The Last Dance” includes new interviews with Kerr, John Starks and Williams among others. (The interview with Starks promises to be fun because Armstrong was guarding Starks at first on the play that became the famous dunk against the Bulls.) One major difference between this podcast and “The Last Dance” is “Beyond The Last Dance” offers perspective on what happened after 1998 through the prism of those that were part of the Chicago dynasty.

“We are not just rehashing ‘The Last Dance,’” Adande said. “We’re looking at some of the themes that were explored in ‘The Last Dance’ to connect to the modern NBA. I want to make this completely clear: I’m a huge fan of what (‘The Last Dance’ director) Jason Hehir and that team did. It is an amazing product and I can see and understand all the editorial decisions that they made. I marvel at all of the things that they were able to get to and incorporate but everything has limits and restrictions. So this allows us to build on that and fill in some of the gaps.”

I'm really looking forward to listening to this series. I definitely wanted more episodes like everyone that watched the doc. I think there's a lot more they could cover on that Bulls dynasty (and the subsequent collapse).

Posting in a 5 year old thread about a 4 year old video, but I stumbled across this "missing chapter" of The Last Dance that was done in Australia about Luc Longley, and I really enjoyed it.  MJ, Pippen, Phil and Steve Kerr all were interviewed for it.

Yeah I watched that awhile ago.  Really cool of Jordan to volunteer to be interviewed for it.

Yeah, I watched that a while ago (and watching it now, because why not…). Of course MJ’s first words on Luc Longley’s doc was to big himself up like he kept doing in The Last Dance. Dude never takes a day off and lets someone else have their moment. 🤣

On another note, Australian Story in general is an excellent program. So many interesting stories worth watching.
