If the Astros cheating scandal had happened to the Cubs, how would you feel about the WS win?

    • It would still feel the same

    • It would partially ruin it, but it would still hold significant meaning to me

If they were on the Astros level, thatwould partially ruin it for me. If they were on the Red Sox level, that would change almost nothing. I am betting that more teams than not were doing something along the lines of what the Sox were doing.

We already have to accept that the Ricketts-owned Cubs that happily employed Chapman and Russell won the WS. Why would I possibly give a horsefeathers about some good ol' baseball cheating? I WISH that was the worst thing they were known for these days.

well the ricketts stuff is obviously more important than stupid baseball stuff, but it's a lot easier to separate that from the actual sports stuff. cheating is kind of hard to separate from the game itself, although I tend to agree that all teams probably try to cheat and the astros were either more brazen than other teams or just are the ones who happened to get caught.

I’d be annoyed by the “Cubs haven’t won a World Series without cheating in 112 years” for like 3.6 seconds but I’d get over it

it would mean significantly less to me and I would never discuss it with a non-cubs fan

Yeah, I think this is about where I land. I'm taking more amusement than I should in what's happening to the Astros right now and it would definitely horsefeathering suck if the Cubs were getting the same treatment.

If it was something to the extent of the Astros, then I would be truly devastated. If it was something like the Red Sox, It'd feel a bit cheapened, but I can't say it would bother me too much other than hearing teams with a little-brother complex (WS, MIL) rag on the Cubs needing to cheat to win a title. While I disagree with what Boston did, that still feels like a small jump from scouting prior to the game and relaying it from the basepaths. It is over the line and they deserve punishment, but of the information available on Boston's infractions they appear much more minor. Alex Cora is really likely going to face the wrath of MLB far more for his work in Houston than Boston.

But like I mentioned, something so pervasive as the Astros cheating scandal where it almost definitely turned the tides of several playoff (especially World Series) games and resulted in a gutting of top executives and the Manager/coaches would be terrible to think about.

My head would spin if I had to figure out which incredible hits in Cubs history were likely tainted.
