If you are talking about Derek Johnson the Reds stole him from the Brewers, not the Cubs. And he left the Cubs for a big league job with the Brewers so that was understandable.

I thought there was a time the Cubs were interested in bringing him back as PC, but maybe that was more random people who wanted that.

Either way, the main point is the Cubs wanted to hire this guy but he chose another team and it's weird to try and make up scenarios where we convince ourselves the Cubs didn't actually want him anyway.

And it's painfully obvious the Cubs have been lapped by multiple organizations in the past few years. Theo was very late to the "we don't sign free agents anymore" trend on top of simply just not being able to develop a single pitcher.

not sure why there is any mystery here on this one. The guy chose the reds because one his his best friends is the Reds ace Trevor Bauer. The guy even tweeted it as reason #3.

There are plenty of reasons to fret over the cubs. Losing a guy like this is a very minor one and likely not a loss. Flip it around and say "the cubs had a shot at this guy even though his buddy (no pun intended) played for the other team"
