What’s a Ryan O’ Malley and should I feel shame for not knowing...?

A really crappy soft-tossing LHP the Cubs called up at the end of the season (2006). I barely remember him, but he pitched one gutsy game against the Astros. There's no shame in not remembering this guy lol.

He was brought up because we ran out of pitchers during a 16-inning win over Houston towards the end of that season and he happened to be the guy whose turn it was at AA. He never would've made the bigs otherwise. He had a random great start the next afternoon and was a pretty cool story. I think he started one more time, didn't do as well, and that was it for him.

i have almost zero specific memories of the 05 and 06 teams. i vaguely remember getting excited for some Prior comeback starts and that's about it.

well aside from the obvious d-lee becoming pujols and then turning into a (still really good in 07 and on) pumpkin after the wrist injury

O'Malley, Lee's injury, and Jacque Jones inexplicably launching a monster home run all the way over Tal's Hill in Houston are the only 3 things I remember from 06 and I'm not even totally sure the latter happened in 06.

2005 was the "derrek lee goes HAM" year.

yeah that's what i was saying

he was basically pujols 2.0 in 05 and he was continuing down that path in 06 until that scumbag furcal ran into him

.318/.448/.614 1.062 when the collision happened.

i'm not sure what i lament more as far as injuries that i blame for ruining players/seasons...that one, or sammy getting hit in the head by torres. he was having a normal beast mode sammy season before that... .333/.518/.683 1.201

.271/.332/.536 the rest of the way

Were the Cubs at least seriously rumored to be trying hard to sign Furcal before the 2006 season? I thought they were pretty gung-ho about wanting a Pierre-Furcal 1-2, and it was viewed like the Dodgers basically swooped in at the relative last minute to sign him when he was leaning towards the Cubs. I remember being especially pissed that it was Furcal who injured Lee because of that...
