He'd be a pretty intriguing option if we wanted to bring in yet another left handed pitcher. He's only 27 and would presumably be controllable for six years.

He also touches 98 with a plus slider and a deceptive delivery. If the Cubs go to a 6 man rotation as I hope they do, given his injury history and effort, his chances are better going 25 starts instead of 30-35. If they miss out on Harper or Machado, he's got the highest ceiling remaining (assuming no pitchers opt out and/or get their options picked up). I think he'll command 100+ mil.

Pass. Can't believe I'm saying that either. But, if we're giving out a long term, nine figure deal this offseason..... It should be for hitting. Plus, we've got enough multi year commitments for starting pitchers to begin with.....

 

I want to trade for a young starter that's depth, plus sign a short term guy. Maybe Hamels, maybe someone not quite that expensive, depending on how things shake out.

I feel like we already proved this year that our defense and even a bipolar offense can carry the pitching staff. You probably gotta bank on the arms you have, load up on some depth, hope smyly gives you 100+ innings and buy a fugging bat.

 

i can't see them risking more than 100 million on an already injured pitcher coming over from another league
