2016 Cleveland

69.1 starter innings at a 3.12 ERA

64.2 reliever innings at a 2.23 ERA

For comparison

2016 Cubs

93.1 starter innings at a 2.60 ERA

61.2 reliever innings at a 3.94 ERA

Interesting. Thanks for pulling that.

3-4 in games starters went under 5 innings, but were 3-1 going in to the WS by my count (4-4 and 4-1 if you include Drone Boys bloody finger game). And those last 3 WS games vs us they went under 5 IP the SP were going on short rest, I believe. They weren't in the DS/CS games.

59 pitches and no hits through 5 against this pud. after starting the game with 7 straight balls

Did you see the last game against the Royals pud? Must be contagious

Glad we did such a good job of resting these guys in the first half so they can go streaking to an 11-11 (if they lose) mark in the second half against a really light schedule of mostly home games.

Joe realized that resting players like in 2016 and 2017 isnt going to lead to a hot streak so decided to go the 2015 route and get no hit.

horsefeathers, I don't think the Cubs have 3 starters right now that even stack up to the 2016 Indians, and I think their bullpen would end up easily as cooked at minimum if they tried to bullpen it for a deep run this season. Hendricks is likely their best option, and he's essentially 2016 Bauer. Yeeeeeesh. The Cubs basically need Yu to come back as Classic Yu.

Might be time for Joe to set a normal lineup moving forward. Rizzo batting 3rd/4th and pitcher batting 9th.

isn't the pitcher basically hitting 9th whenever Russell plays?

The only drama of this game is if Kyle will be left in too long to blow it open, or Joe will go to De La Rosa to blow it open.

Murphy should get his average back to .300 this weekend.

Not if he gets injured running the bases. He looked like a geriatric sliding home earlier and now he's sliding head first into 2B on that?

Their rotation was Kluber, Bauer, Tomlin and Merritt (who the horsefeathers is Merritt?), fwiw. I think their bullpen did get burnt out but they also were throwing SP on short rest by the end, which I don't think we'll do no matter what (which hopefully saves some innings/helps performance but obviously we still need to win and the SP need to perform). And yeah goes with out saying Yu being Yu will be huge and then need one of the lefties at least to figure it out to a competent level.

We obviously don't have a Kluber level guy now but we have guys as good as the version of those other dudes in 2016, if not better. We also have maybe 1-2 extra guys in the bullpen that are better than their options were but they had more high end options in Miller and Shaw at the time.

I'd rather some combination of Zobrist, Heyward and/or Baez bat in front of Rizzo instead of Russell/pitcher
