Willy is going to set the record for most middle-middle FBs swung and missed at in a season by the ASB Edited by Cubswin11

I don't want to be overly mean to Willson but he looks like Bryant up there lately.

I know. I keep seeing people point out his wRC but I never feel like he is hitting well outside of that one stretch against the White Sox

Our 20 year olds look old at the plate.

Yeah, I want to love Willson in the ways a man can, but I am baffled by his value so far this year; outside of his arm, he seems to be stankin' more often than not at pretty much everything.

7th time in 9 innings the leadoff man reaches for the Dodgers. Interestingly the run they scored came in an inning they didn’t get the lead guy on

I think a lot of it is the RF/oppo/contacty approach by Chili. The pull power just isn’t there right now for a lot of the guys with that approach, which it’s nice to see more contact and the oppo approach at times and Willy and Russell (for example) are walking and getting on base at great clips and striking out less than ever and Russell’s BA is at an all time high but heir power has vanished.

Eye test of his defense makes me think his value might be a bit overstated, just with framing and blocking. But the offense is pretty close to fine...just missing some power like most of the rest of them.

Probably speaks to you’re bigger complaint, which is that we’re a top tier offense statistically that has struggled with runners on base, and those are the at bats that stick out more.

Russell still hasn't been hitting for power, but he has looked really good lately.

I think I prefer a clean batting average, good on-base, 10-homer Addy over a crappy batting average, crappy on-base, 21-homer Addy.

ETA: But the 21-homer other crappy stuff Addy might be considered better value for all I know.

I agree, but he at least needs to hit more doubles I’m fine with 12-15 HRs
