Not sure getting 18 year olds will end up making sense, but maybe they could get involved with the "transfer" game. Rather than sit out a year, potentially put up tape immediately that spring and then declare the next year.

I think there are a decent number of high school players who would gladly skip college and start making money at age 18

The top ones are peobably gonna get much better coaching at high level college programs. Doubt the XFL is gonna drop much money on some 3 star 18 year old.

From a potential brain injury standpoint, it's probably safer to play in college. Not that college players aren't getting concussions on a regular basis but at least there aren't any 27 year old men with nothing to lose targeting their heads which there would certainly be in the XFL. I don't claim to be an expert on concussions but, as a high school coach I am required to take a sports injury class and they made it pretty clear that if you're younger than your early 20s, the effect of a concussion is much more severe.

The future of the XFL is as the place where a tweener can prove that he can play the same position he played in college at the next level instead of switching positions. This would be especially important for QBs.

The Rock is buying the XFL for $15 million.

This raises so many questions for me:

1) Was the league financially viable in year 1 before COVID shut it down?

2) If so, why is Vince selling it? I don't know a ton about bankruptcy, is this something you have to do when you declare bankruptcy and you don't want it to touch your other assets?

3) If not financially viable, what is the value of owning a league that only lasted 1/2 a season, has little brand recognition and is attempting to produce a spring football league which many have done and all failed in the past?

4) I'm pretty sure Dwyane and Vince have a close relationship.. is Vince still going to have any involvement in the league?

I thought this quote I found was interesting from an old interview:

Additionally, Garcia claimed that Vince McMahon and The Rock still operate to this day off of handshake agreements, noting that it's a "very special relationship in this day and age" to have with someone.

"We have no legal agreements between us," said Garcia. "With Vince McMahon, we’ve always been able to shake hands. That’s a very special relationship in this day and age. That we can operate with that level of trust."

McMahon said he would not be pursuing the trademarks as part of the bankruptcy proceeding, not sure if that was a requirement, I have no idea how bankruptcy works.

My impression is The Rock is the Derek Jeter/Magic Johnson of the investment group.

A little surprised they aren't trying something for 2021 to capitalize on lower tier college programs that had their season affected by Covid.

They'll need fans in the stands to stay solvent.

Not if they can pay poor college students desperate to play football (and audition for the NFL) pennies to do so.

gimmick leagues have never had trouble acquiring labor, it's selling the product that has done them all in repeatedly. You need to sell tickets to do that.

Well, even so, there's going to be fans in plenty of stadiums around the country already this fall. I don't see why XFL couldn't partially fill some stadiums in warm weather places that would allow it in February. Maybe they feel they don't have the capital to absorb the risk of lawsuit from fans or players if the virus is spread at one of their events?

The XFL can’t partially fill stadiums when there’s not a pandemic.

Weren't they at like 20k/game before covid hit this year?
