andy benoit did a dumb thing

Is there a woman's sport worth watching, though (coming someone who has actually placed wagers in Vegas on WNBA games)?

Tennis can be entertaining, I suppose. Then again, I don't even watch men's college sports (and only 3 pro ones) so I'm a bit of an elitist here.

That said, this take on Wilson is just criminally dumb.

That's your horsefeathering takeaway?

I've been thoroughly entertained by the US women's soccer team for a long time now. I enjoy women's hockey, curling, skiing, speed skating, swimming at the olympics, some gymnastics if forced to watch, the occasional women's golf major. Beach volleyball is an absolute pleasure.

Tennis is significantly more entertaining than the men's game. I don't watch the WNBA, but I don't watch the NBA or NCAAB either. I don't care about men's or women's track, but if you like one there really isn't much reason to not like the other. Same with ice skating. UFC and all other combat sports are dumb things for stupid people to watch no matter the gender.

Anyway, Andy Benoit wrote that Russell Wilson isn't that good even though he's tough to face because offensive coaches need to focus on making offenses predictable.

You missed the edit (I think?) because I lazily made that post when I was 3 sentences in.

But yeah, I forgot about the Olympics. Those are sort of fun. I'd never watch men or women compete in any of that stuff normally but I can consume it in those 2-3 weeks or whatever it is. The truth is, I don't really get much enjoyment out of any sport I don't have a rooting interest in (Cubs/Bears/Bulls or a game that I convince myself means something to one of those 3 teams - or a bet).

I also don't think Wilson is so much better than Stafford for that take to be that insane (I think Stafford is underrated - and their passing numbers are pretty similar this year...Russell has more team accomplishments but has also had a fantastic defense behind him - Russell's mobility puts him over the top), but the rest of what Benoit wrote is hilaridumb. That whole nonsense about the guy he'd want to play with being the same guy he'd want to play against or whatever is one of the most devoid-of-logic things I've ever read.

wait i just re-read this... are you implying that if you like the NBA there's no reason not to also like watching the WNBA, here, or are those separate thoughts?

I don't watch the WNBA, but I don't watch the NBA or NCAAB either. That thing right there, just before the word that, is a period, used to denote the end of a sentence. The next sentence I wrote was I don't care about men's or women's track, but if you like one there really isn't much reason to not like the other. Those are two different sentences noting two different thoughts.

ok, i just wasn't sure if you were tying those two thoughts together, since they are somewhat related. to me the first sentence read like "yeah, i don't like the wnba but i don't like basketball at all," followed by a sentence that said that if you like men's track, there's no reason not to like women's track" (a thought i'd say i probably agree with on its own). so i wasn't sure if you meant for those two to interplay as a general rule beyond the references to those specific sports.

regardless, yeah, i watch mlb, nba, and the nfl, and really just one team in each.

i can't even begin to understand how "omg this guy is too unconventional to work" could be a thought after 5-6 years of proven success

scouting him out of college? sure, fine. as a rookie after a few games? ok. debating whether russell wilson's playing style can achieve really good results at this point is like trying to argue that water isn't wet

I enjoy watching women's softball. The NCAA games between top schools can be really exciting. The women's proleague hasn't gotten much attention, but it can be really fun to watch.

Lost in the craziness of Pittsburgh having a TD unfairly overruled despite video evidence that didn't show the ball hitting the ground (left hand moved, right hand stayed under ball), the big mistake by Ben was the dumb throw underneath on 2nd down. It's 1/goal from the 8 with 36 seconds left. You have three shots at the end zone then a field goal. He threw short on first down and got away with it, but then he threw short again and forced a sloppy third down play. That's dumb QB play that a rookie would get raked for.

If all this Jerry Richardson crap brings about a Diddy/Steph Curry/Colin Kaepernick ownership consortium, that would just be tremendous.

look at the bright side. he didn't rape anybody on that drive

it should be the simplest thing

CATCH:

is firm possession of the ball secured simultaneous with 2 feet/steps in bounds

(then whatever happens after falls under standard fumble guidelines)

FUMBLE:

no forward gains on fumbles out of bounds, ball spotted where the carrier last had full possession of ball
