Week 8 - Single digit passing attempts team vs. Old Man McGee

Also, the Steelers are pissed at him and the way he's been handling the situation, so they have no real motivation to give hime what he wants.

When his next one is a year long suspension, it definitely plays into things. I brought him up, I'd take a shot on him. But, I'm not giving up a 4th or more. If he's a nuisance and they'd deal him for a 6th or 7th, I'd be in. But, he's not a guy you extend currently. He's definitely a guy you proceed with caution on, especially considering his immaturity that he's showing currently. I love the talent, but I'm not even sure I'd truly want his potential attitude issues around Trubisky.

As Derwood notes, I doubt the Steelers are interested in moving him for a nothing return just to appease him. They went deep in the playoffs last year and have a very good team this year. Schefter's trade was for a 5th, so maybe that could get it done, but I wouldn't give him up for that if I was the Steelers.

Part of the equation is that I don't see anyone on the market next year that has close to the talent/fit combination. He doesn't have eye popping production, but the physical attributes he brings could be offense-changing stuff. And what he did his rookie year on a per catch basis was pretty eye popping.

I'm generally in the camp of leaving guys who are a headache alone, but right now an impact receiver would completely change the offense. And drafting a receiver, even in the first couple rounds, is an extremely dicey way to try and get immediate production. This guy has been playing in a great passing offense with a great QB for a three years and has another year on suspension where he was probably looking at tape. But is only 25. He's a guy you should probably expect to produce very good numbers immediately if you force feed him the ball. And if you force feed him the ball I doubt he's going to have a lot of attitude issues.

I could be completely wrong though, and it seems most likely that they won't get him. But I think he fits much better than going after a guy like Landry for the slot or Alshon who is another big slow jump ball guy with injury issues, like White and Meredith. He's potentially a headache, but he's also a potential game changer.

And as far as the suspension is concerned, this guy is try to get his big contract. I highly doubt he's going to get himself suspended again and lose out on that. And this is the NFL, so you can sign him and write some language into his contract that voids it if he gets suspended. He hasn't done so much that he'll demand an astronomical contract. The risk to me on a 4th or even 3rd rounder (with an extension probably if it's a 3rd) isn't near as high as the upside.

Plus, there is potential upside to giving Trubisky a prima donna right out of the gate. This is his team, so they just tell him that he's to control the huddle. And there are going to be weird personalities you have to deal with. So here's an outlandish guy who wants targets. The team's strategy involves giving him those targets, but it's your prerogative how you want to handle his personality, Mitch. Be a leader, keep him in line.

I think we'll sign one of the top end guys for sure in the off season. If Inman shows anything, we'll bring him back. Unless someone else shows a good bit between now and the end of the season, we'll be starting fresh.

Meredith and White will be there, maybe with Inman. I doubt they go into next year with White as anything more than a 5/6 guy competing for a spot.

Meredith, Inman, White plus one of the top FA, a 1st or 2nd rounder spent on WR and either a secondary FA or a 4th or 5th spent on a WR too.

That's kind of what I suspect. How hard is it to find a deep threat? I'm not sure. I've not given it a lot of thought. My guess is there's got to be some guys out there. I'll look, but I'm definitely OK using a pick on one.

I'm OK with Bryant, but a 4th or more is just too high for me, considering his situation.

Kamara is what the Saints have missed lately. Perfect fit in this offense.

What a draft the last two years for NO.

Trubisky is so damned afraid of making a mistake, thanks to Fox, he doesn't see open receivers

Which is quite surprising considering how bad their previous five or so drafts were. They only have like 4 guys on the team from their 2011-2015 drafts or something like that. Atrocious.

I have to admit that I think it was a good pick for the Bears. I thought it was a mistake to move up to get Mitch back during the draft, but I can see how he's going to translate in the future and he looks to have all the tools.

Wtf Callahan? That's an inexcusable missed tackle that leads to a 50+ yard gain

he just stumbled, dumb luck.

I’ve thought the same way about Loomis/Payton in the draft and with FA signings. Ever since they brought in Ireland in the FO they have killed it in the offseason.

I don't see how Loomis can give ample time to both the Pelicans and the Saints. It just seems like that's when everything started to go to hell with the front office.

that's a personal foul!! You aren't allowed to touch Brees, Brady, or Rodgers.

Brees's obnoxious behavior during this whole national anthem thing makes me want him smeared on every play. he's just a bitch.

Loomis is mostly the guy who works with contracts and the cap (poorly IMO) and Payton is the scouting half. But yeah, I agree. A new set of eyes as head of scouting was good for them.
