I was actually underwhelmed with Watson at times last night, but him QBing the Bears for the next decade is all I can think about now. Someone walk me off the ledge.

So tantalizing, yet the odds of it working out successfully are low. He wouldn't last 3 seasons with the style of play I saw in limited doses last night. If you can't slide you can't survive.

I felt like he floated too many throws last night, though maybe that was kind of intentional because he knew that either Williams could go up and get it or nobody was going to get it.

The odds of finding a good QB are low. Need a bettter reason.

I think its weird the two names that keep getting brought up are Vince Young and Johnny Manziel. Neither if those guys were talked up in the intangible department like Watson is. Its also easy to forget that at times, Vince Young WAS a tantalizing real life NFL QB, just a bit spotty and short lived. If VY is the bust side of Watson... that's not awful risk.

QBs who make their living with their legs are much more likely to have their career be short lived. It's the nature of the job. You can't protect QBs who invite contact.

I love the idea of the player, I hate spending a third on the guy.

If you're looking for a couple good years and then starting over with a whole new coaching staff and a new QB search after this combusts, by all means.

You probably aren't drafting your QB of the foreseeable future with this guy, but you might be drafting your QB of the immediate future. Hope for a little longer duration than the RGIII phenomenon.

So the upside isn't 39 year old Manning, Brady, Montana still doing their thing. The upside is Donavan McNabb? Downside VY, RG3, Culpepper?

I think that may me appropriate risk at 3 in a draft where there is only 1 premier prospect at another premier position.

I'm leaning Turbisky. I know he's young, lack of college playing time, etc, but I see more upside longterm with him. I feel like there is more that could go right with him vs Watson, and less that could go wrong. But I don't think you cannot take him if he's there at #3, not with our QB situation

I worry about a David Carr situation if we don't protect him however.

I'm not as high on our line as sulley is, but it certainly won't be a David Carr situation. 2 of our 3 QBs this year managed to not get killed.

I'm kind of torn on him as well. I expect he'll cut down on the running significantly in the NFL. Just looking at the numbers this year, he wasn't an effective runner (3.8 ypc). It's hard for me to project how these spread QBs will do in the NFL. He took so many snaps yesterday from the shotgun and would just stand there flat footed until he decided to throw.

Here's the thing about Turbisky.

Can anyone think of a QB who started just 1 year in college and had a successful career in the NFL? I can't think of one. Maybe Trubisky will be the exception, but that scares me.

Cam Newton immediately came to mind.

what's that now?

Hoyer and Barkley saw pretty clean pockets (10 sacks). Only Cutler, who historically isn't great at avoiding pressure, saw a lot of sacks (17 in half the number of starts). I believe the advanced stuff like hurries/pressure show this too, but am too lazy to pull up.

In other words, we shouldnt expect any of our QBs to become road kill i.e. David Carr on expansion era Texans.

a couple guys could get hurt behind the best line in the league. it's not like they don't still give up numerous sacks.

the cowboys gave up the same amount of sacks as the bears this year. tied for 7th fewest in the league.

Since everyone just saw Watson's last game I figured I'd post Trubisky's. It wasn't even that great a game for him (2 of his 6 picks came in this one, along with a fumble) but it's a good snapshot of his tools.

Saw this post on another forum and agreed with most of it so figured I'd post it here:

Trubisky is the guy. If you are going to draft a QB at #3, it has to be Trubisky.

http://draftbreakdown.com/video/mitc...stanford-2016/

Just watched his tape against Stanford. He threw 2 ugly picks in this game, yes. Apart from those two plays however, he showed his arm big time. I want you guys to watch for a few things -

1. His quick release - Very snappy, gets the ball out of his hand very quickly.

2. His pocket presence - He moves in the pocket better than any QB in this draft.

3. His ability to extend plays - Under duress for most of the game, he looked like Aaron Rodgers out there at times!

4. The man has a cannon for an arm.

5. His competitiveness - Trubisky makes big throw after big throw at the end of the game, under pressure only to have his receivers drop multiple would be TD's. He still almost gets the job done in the end.

For the pocket presence thing check out 2:42. Just slight moves in a collapsing pocket while avoiding the rush then firing down field. Or just flip to 6:26 for the final drive where he throws 4 passes that should have been TDs but still gets one on the last play with a pretty nice escape and throw.

Still all about Jonathan Allen.

(And sign Eric Berry.)

I know Trevathan had some issues this year, but Kwiatkowski over him?

he was good when he was playing, but that injury will have him out at least first half of the season.

i read 6-9 month recovery...tho it could still be a while after coming back before he's fully right on the field.

but even on the long end of that time table, you're talking late preseason return to action.

Most of what I've read has said he could end up on the PUP list. Either way, Kwiatkowski looks suitable to fill in if needed, but also perfectly fine being the primary backup.

With Freeman being a beast in the middle, it's not like there's going to be much difference between Kwiatkowski and Trevathan. I like both, but it's not super-important, especially with a front of Allen-Goldman-Hicks, those linebackers are going to look so good.

There's also quite a long recovery to get back to prior levels. Only two players have returned to their previous production their next year, in trying to come back from a torn patella. He's extremely likely to start the year on the PUP and not even be good for the second half of the season, on top of that.
