Did anyone else get a notice this week informing them that the Cubs have cancelled their season tickets? Would be greatly interested in hearing about this.

No reason given in the e-mail. From Colin Faulkner, VP of Sales and Marketing. Just "we have chosen not to renew your account after careful consideration." I did sell most of them, no question. But I've had these awhile and have lost tons of money some years, as well.

If the person is selling it via the Cubs-approved channel, I don't really understand why it should be a problem. Fine, if they're selling ALL of their tickets, that's one thing, but even most of them, come on; the amount of season ticket holders who actually go to most of the games instead of selling them or giving them away has to be pretty damn small.

Agreed. What if someone buys season tickets solely to guarantee themselves playoff tickets? What are they supposed to do, eat a bunch of tickets for games they can't go to for the privilege of going to all playoff games?

Every year I remind my REP that I do not currently live near Chicago, but that I use the tickets in the playoffs as much as I can. It helps that I sell my hard tickets to a lot of family that use maybe 10-15% of my regular season seats. Still, I keep that line of communication open and am honest about my current situation with my rep.

If you are selling 90% of your season tickets via Stubhub, I would be very careful since the Cubs can track all Stubhub sales, as in my case.

It's different when the Cubs are losing 90+ games and their goal is to simply put arses in seats.

They will probably have an article published in Crain's or the Tribune soon about how "tough on scalpers" they are. They like to put that image out there when it's convenient for them.

I sell most of mine since I live 5 hours away, mostly through StubHub. I probably made it to about 6 regular season games (3 trips) and made it to 4 home playoff games.

This is a bit concerning. The sales last year were nice, but I'm still in the hole from where I started 6 years ago.

This is similar to me. Attended probably 8 games. How many seats did you have? And I assume you were allowed to renew?

Be careful how you answer, Bruno. If you say you were allowed to renew, he's gonna call his rep and throw your ass under the bus to save his own.

It helps that I have a brother in law in Chicago as well. He takes a decent amount of games each year. When I have to personally sell them on my own it is through Stubhub.

I do find it odd that if the Cubs were to do this they wouldn't give an explanation. I'd be on the phone with my rep immediately.

Yeah, because that's how it works..."We'll give you scalper immunity if you find out who the big fish scalpers out there are!"

I was trying to look at similarly situated season ticket holders and assess whether I'm being unfairly targeted.

Have you tried calling them?

Yes. They said that their decision was final due to extensive re-selling on the account. I'm contemplating my options at this point. Part of me says to walk away, but another part of me says they may be in violation of the law.

It turns out that Illinois is actually not very friendly toward restricting the resale of tickets as long as it's done through a reputable business like Stubhub.

See: See 815 ILCS 414: "Any term or condition of the original sale of a ticket to any theater, circus, baseball park, or place of public entertainment or amusement where tickets of admission are sold that purports to limit the terms or conditions of resale of the ticket (including but not limited to the resale price of the ticket) is unenforceable, null, and void..."

Something is missing here; it's not like they don't want people selling the tickets through approved means if they can't use them. They didn't explain why it would be a problem if you were selling them legit?
