Posted this in the Schwarber thread but figured I'd put it here too...

Tomlin actually has reverse splits, this year and for his career. So if they are iffy on Schwarber to begin with in the OF I could see that playing a factor in at least sitting him for the game tomorrow. .276/.310/.487 vs RHB and .246/.277/.450 vs LHB for his career and .295/.323/.522 vs RHB and .227/.247/.438 vs LHB this year.

Lindor had 15 HR in just under 700 plate appearances. If that's the standard for home run hitters, then the Cubs will have 8 of them in the lineup tomorrow. The Cubs had more HR and a better IsoP despite not having a DH and playing in a much worse park for HR(Wrigley 24th for HR, Jacobs Field 5th). Their 2 best power hitters play 1B and DH, so one might not even get to start unless they want to abandon defense worse than starting Schwarber and put Napoli/Santana in LF.

I can respect the desire for as few variables as possible given that the Cubs have an advantage straight up, but as far as variables go, this is one that we can be the most comfortable with. The Cubs are better at hitting home runs, their starter is great at preventing home runs, and the Indians starter is one of the worst in baseball at preventing home runs. Advantage Cubs.

Napoli. Ramirez. Santana. Lindor.

Not to be pedantic, but in all likelihood it's one of Napoli and Santana in any given non-DH game, not both. Possibly the same for the Cubs re Schwarber, but on paper you're taking away relatively more of their standard firepower.

Apparently Santana was taking flyballs in LF the past 2 days in Cleveland they are thinking of playing him out there.

They might as well. Tomlin gives up 1.86 HR/FB and that's presumably not only when the wind is howling out and he's facing one of the best HR hitting teams in baseball.

Heard that also, and I would dare them to try it. Like with their starting pitching, however, they may feel they have no choice. Otherwise that lineup should be more manageable for an above-average staff. Not easy per se--they're deservedly in the WS--but more navigable. Their downside is the Cubs have some good baserunners and RH-pull power, so free bases could be there for the taking.

random guy learning to play LF when wind is howling at Wrigley should make for some entertainment

mlbn showed clips of the less than a handful of plays he's had out there and they were funny (but he did make the catches)

and that's when he's expecting a fly ball to be hit to him with coaches yelling out helpful positioning hints

nah this was actual game footage. he has played there like twice for a few innings. last time was 3-4 years ago iirc.

gotcha. I assumed it was practice time or something. stupid vue not having mlbn!

I generally enjoy MLBN, but man, they have a wide variety of quality with the studio experts that network.

If I had to guess the lineup I'd say it's. Wouldn't mind seeing Baez moved down a notch or 2 tho for Contreras and even Soler.

Fowler CF

Bryant 3B

Rizzo 1B

Zobrist LF

Baez 2B

Contreras C

Soler RF

Russell SS

Hendricks P

I could see it more as a quasi-desparation/calculated risk/counter move in Gm 4, if they drop Gm 3. Down 2-1 needing a win, maybe anxious for more offense, their best SP on the mound so expecting less OF action, wind more favorable for a novice OFer (and forecast I'm seeing shows blowing to RF on Sat).

Will be fascinating to see each sides' thinking unfold over the next couple games. Love October baseball!
