It's amazing how Atlanta is getting a new stadium but a team that actually needs one has to play in this dump.

 

The Rangers getting a new stadium is even more disgusting. I have friends leaving the Arlington DFW area because of it.

That is uh weird

 

If the taxes are drastically up because of it then it could make sense. I dont know how much a stadium could impact taxes on an individual when dispersed through a big city though. Plus taxes are pretty low in Texas anyways i hear.

 

Hank Hill might be pissed though... Rangers arent dem Cowboys..

Awesome. I dont know how he is supposedly meh with the defensive metrics. Its not like he makes the flashy play then screws up a ton. He seems pretty sure handed and makes a freakish play per week.

 

He's not really meh with defensive metrics anymore. He's actually rated very well at short and second this year. He got off to a bad start at third, mainly because he made a few errors early on, but his numbers have crept back up there, too. And he rated very well at third last year.

 

His defensive metrics looked bad his rookie year. But he's been valuable defensively this year.

Man, I somehow read Braves as A's at first and thought Chad Bradford. Long day, I guess.

A few things:

 

1. That stadium is an absolute dump. I mean, I knew it would be, but it was worse than I imagined. We walked the park like we do every new stadium we go to. They had a Club area in Mt. Davis that looked abandoned. There were big TUBE televisions in there. For some reason 1 of the 9 was on showing the game. The other 8 were all off. My friend made the comment that it reminded him of The Shining. I don't know why they would leave that area visible to the public.

 

2. That game was a lot of fun. Before the game I told them I was most excited about Jorge's return and then he went yard first AB. Then I mentioned what a great defender Baez is. When he made that play my friend and his wife who are not baseball people at all and could have cared less about the game went nuts like the rest of the park.

Taxes in Texas are the same as anywhere they just get you in different places than a place like Chicago. Property taxes in Texas are some of, if not the highest in the country. The way the stadium got passed was shady and is being fought right now. Just because you think ah it's only a few dollars here and there doesn't make it right. The tax dollars being used will be taken from somewhere in the populace and why be a party to giving billionaires more money when you can move to another part of the state enjoy the same quality of life and not have to have your money stolen from you? Totally weird.

 

They're also still paying for the $2b monstrosity that is the Cowboys new stadium. There are also other things that go up in price when a stadium gets built. Slowly but surely people are waking up to the fact that paying for stadiums is a giant con game perpetrated by cities around the country.

According to wikipedia, Arlington provided $325 million of the estimated $1.15 billion it cost.
