From Arizona Phil on Monday:

RHSP Oscar de la Cruz (right elbow soreness) threw a 25-pitch bullpen side-session this morning and apparently had no problems, unlike last week when his bullpen was shut-down after only a half-dozen pitches. One of the Cubs top prospects (he was ranked as the Cubs #3 pitching prospect and their 8th best overall prospect by Baseball America coming into the 2016 season), de la Cruz has not pitched in a game since being shut-down with a sore elbow at Minor League Camp in March.

Also, he said Christian Villanueva has been doing BP and is close to starting a rehab assignment.

Hmm...given than Villanueva was out of options, has he been passed through waivers after his injury? I guess I can just look to see if he's on the current 40 man roster to answer that question.

He's still on the 40 man roster. So he'll still need to be passed through waivers or added to the major league team.

If only we had an open roster spot, or one occupied by some dude who's had 2 at bats in the month of June.

Yep. Guessing he won't be in the organization once his rehab is over.

Zastryzny had no K's and walked 5 in 5 innings, yet somehow only gave up 3 runs in Colorado Springs. That is borderline miraculous.

In happier Iowa pitching news, Spencer Patton had his K/BB ratio cross 5 today, 41/9 in 24 IP.

Man, when is Ian Rice going to stop crushing? A double and another HR so far tonight. Does anyone have intel on his defense? From his stat sheet, he hasn't allowed a passed ball yet but guys are running on him like crazy. Only 3 caught stealing in 24 attempts in just 15 games behind the plate...

Was just coming here to post about him. Wondering if he'll see MB this year
