Didn't like using Rondon for 5 outs, but he only threw 19 pitches. I see no reason he couldn't go tomorrow on the off chance the Cubs actually have a save-able game twice in a row for the first time ever.

That was quick.

And Javy is awesome at everything but swinging a bat.

In fairness, he's amazing at swinging a bat.

I haven't read through the game thread yet, but I'm sure some people will concur that was a stupid game. Three runs, all on sac flies. Some stupid crap like the pitcher getting HBP after a bunt single, or an 0-2 HBP to lead-off an inning. Just really bad luck with sequencing. I was getting pissed off.

I really liked how Joe managed that game, though. The difference between him and Dusty Baker is enormous and conspicuous. There's times I've questioned Joe's bullpen management. It's nothing too bad. I don't think he's bad at it or anything. There's just been a few times I've second-guessed him. You'll have that. And I may have (nearly certainly) been wrong anyway. But, I absolutely loved everything Joe did tonight. Kudos to him.

my only real beef with the game was pulling Strop, but I get it

Jesse Rogers posted a vid of maddon on ESPN indicating that "sending a reliever back out after an intense inning rarely ever works" (paraphrased)

Plus off day on Thursday if Rondon is needed tomorrow.

The other thing: The officiating in this game was horrific. Bad balls-strikes, poor calls on the field and worse reviews.

This game doesn't bother me at all for one good reason: we still won.
