No word from Yags on what Mekkes signed for but apparently he's in the fold. BA now has Cubs having signed:

RND PICK PLAYER POS

4 134 Tyson Miller RHP

6 194 Chad Hockin RHP

7 224 Michael Cruz C

8 254 Stephen Ridings RHP

9 284 Duncan Robinson RHP

10 314 Dakota Mekkes RHP

13 404 Wyatt Short LHP

15 464 Jed Carter RHP

16 494 Holden Cammack RHP

17 524 Zack Short SS

18 554 Marc Huberman LHP

19 584 Matt Swarmer RHP

20 614 Colton Freeman LHP

21 644 Sam Tidaback C

25 764 Trent Giambrone 2B

27 824 Connor Myers OF

29 884 Tyler Peyton RHP

32 974 Zach Davis OF

That leaves just 5 guys unsigned from their top 20 round selections.

Junior RHP Thomas Hatch (3rd)

Junior RHP Bailey Clark (5th)

Senior RHP Michael Rucker (11th)

Junior RHP Trey Cobb (12th)

Junior RHP Parker Dunshee (15th)

Yags has the Cubs with $226,800 in bonus overages but some of that will likely be taken up in the Mekkes signing.

One of three things must be true...

1. The reported amounts Yags has reported thus far are off a bit.

2. Hatch has agreed to sign for about $20,000 under slot.

3. Hatch is going back to Oklahoma State and the Cubs would have to cut someone else loose, likely 9th round pick Duncan Robinson

If the signing bonuses for Mekkes and Clark are correct and Yags is also accurate, the Cubs are now $19,800 over their allotment with Hatch still unsigned.

You're actually allowed to go 5% over slot on your pool without penalty.

Yags' number includes that 5%.

If Hatch is going back to college all they have to do is offer some % (I think it is 60%) and then they still get that slot money to spend right?

No.

Never mind. I misunderstood. Yags' number doesn't include the 5%. My bad.

Okay, so doing the math myself (because apparently I need to), the Cubs have $2,357,355 to spend including the 5% overage.

Hatch - unsigned (slot $573,900)

Miller $500,000

Clark $450,000

Hockin $241,000

Cruz $75,000

Ridings $120,000

Robinson $30,000

Mekkes $275,000

That totals $1,691,000 already spent + Hatch's slot money = $2,264,900.

So the Cubs still $92,455 above slot to spend meaning they can go as high as $666,355 for Hatch or spread that around between Hatch, his buddy Trey Cobb and Parker Dunshee (both of whom are juniors).

12th round pick, and OSU teammate of Hatch, Trey Cobb said in a twitter post that he is "also" returning for his senior year. Don't know what the "also" means. Hopefully, it's not referring to Hatch.

His tweet didn't say "also" in reference to another Cowboy:

Ah, good. The page I accessed the top of that tweet was cut off, so it read "baseball it is also my dream..." Couldn't tell, thanks!

Excellent. I don't really have any expectations for this class, but I'm at least hopeful about a few of these guys.

According to Yags, we're getting 23rd round SS Delvin Zinn. He was a top 250 guy by BA and was drafted by us last year in the 28th. Wasn't thinking we'd get him, with Clark, Miller, and Mekkes getting as much as they did.

Outstanding! I didn't think we'd have a chance at him.

Back a dump truck full of steaks to this kid's house. Love adding another exciting athlete, though.

Rucker got 180K. Zinn and Sweeney got 100k. The deadline is later today, but we're out of overage(have 12K left or so). My guess is we're done, unless Biasi signed and it fell under the radar somehow.
