Tbh, it was the only choice if itsallpartoftheplan is right and Baez is the last guy on the bench once Ross comes in.

I thought it was the 7th. And I'm the one that said Maddon does everything right. I should be ashamed of myself for doubting his genius.

Also, though Kalish isn't exactly an elite contact guy, he isn't as boom or bust as Javy. All you need is someone to dink one in there like that to take the lead. Javy could have cleared the bases or went deep, but Kalish is a decent choice for some pixie dust magic.
