So some of you negative nancy's need to step up and admit you were wrong about Lackey. He's been the exact same quality innings eater he was last season (and based on WHIP actually better). Ironically the guy you were hating on has been a much better signing than the slap hitting corner outfielder who everyone was going nuts over because of defensive metrics.

Oh well I expect lame jokes and possible memes in return. Some people just can't admit they were wrong. It's a really nasty personality trait.

very few people actually thought lackey sucked. this thread was mostly a jokey response to a bad game (in which he got schwarber killed on purpose) since a lot of posters here hate lackey because he's kind of a big meatbally red assed jerk. i don't care that he is at all, but a lot of people do, apparently.

It's just entertaining to hate on a chronic horsefeathers head for being a chronic horsefeathers head.

This StylesClash guy gets things.

he has to be 60 years old

Or a young Cardinals fan. Same thing.

Never been a Cardinal fan and I am under 30 years old. But yeah lets get hard over a corner outfielder with great range, but be disgruntled with the innings eater with quality control. No wonder this site cant raise funds. You guys prioritize the wrong things in your players, so what new poster would want to sign up and contribute. Next we can get worked up over Almora, despite the fact he can't take a Walk to save his life.

Nobody is actually "disgruntled" over Lackey's performance; it's pretty much all an ongoing bit about how unlikable he is as a person. Also: nobody is fawning over Heyward while he's been struggling so much as hoping and expecting him to break out of it due to his track record. Try and grasp this....and then try and grasp THIS.

A lot of people thought Lackey overachieved greatly last season and would go back to being average to slightly above average. Yet Lackey still has the same quality fastball and ability to occasionally mix in an offspeed pitch. So I don't see that happening this year.

If you wanna talk about Heyward take it to one of the Heyward threads.

or, better yet, he can just stop spewing random [expletive].

People fawned over Heyward in a big time way in the offseason. And I could never get incredibly excited over giving nearly 200 million to a corner outfielder with defensive ability being a big part of the reasoning. Heyward, for the most part in his career, has never even been a great on-base threat. Good, but not 25+ million a year good. And with his ground ball inducing swing I don't see the power coming in large doses.

I have a suspicion that Pedro Strop and Hector Rondon are his least favorite members of the pitching staff, if you catch my drift.

he's not high on Carl Edwards as a prospect, either.

Just wait until he gets a look at Fowler's BABIP.

And you are clearly a Cardinals fan. Let's breakdown the evidence:

-Hates Heyward, like Cardinals fans do.

-Loves Lackey, the epitome of the white trash scum dreamboat all Cardinals fans yearn for their players to be.

-Hates Baez, clearly because the hope of him breaking out as a prospect reminds of the hopes dashed when Oscar Taveras wrapped his car around a tree.

-Loves posting anti-Cubs/anti-NSBB horsefeathers.

I REST MY CASE.

ON YOUR FACE.

have you not seen enough of his defense (and baserunning, for that matter) by now to realize how valuable he is when he actually hits to his career norms? i'm not the biggest fan of his bat in the corner OF but watching him on a daily basis it is obvious that he brings extraordinary defensive value and has saved us a lot of runs that way. enough so that he's basically on pace for a 2 win (league average) season despite not being able to hit his way out of a wet paper bag for 2 months.

yes, he has been bad at the plate this year so far. you won't find anybody arguing otherwise.

Except he's been "25+ million a year good" most of his career and he's still a young player. People were and are right to be exicted and hopeful over such a player instead of an old ass horse tooth monster who's a valuable freakshow.

Seems more logical to hate Baez because of his home run off Lackey in Game 4 of the NLDS.

Heyward is also 11 years younger than Lackey. I'm as happy as anyone that Lackey is pitching well (while also being more of a red ass than even I expected so far) but like, Lackey is a stopgap before we find a long term solution starter, Heyward is a guy that's so good at baseball he has been one of the worst hitters in the league and still valuable with his defense and base running.

How dare all of us get excited by the 26 year old potential corner stone player that has for the past 7 years been an above average hitter, elite defender and base runner and could be here for 10 years

Instead, bizarrely, compare him to the 37 year old rental that over pitched his peripherals massively last year, who, to his credit, kept it going this year, and is a totally unlikeable [expletive] to boot

I think I'd kinda hate him even more because he'd look so happy.

Yeah, him smiling intentionally would be even worse.

I mean seriously, an ERA over 3? GTFO Lackey. We only take GOOD starters on this team.

EDIT: Jersey beat me to this.
