Some article about the deal that showed up on my FB feed. Maybe the ESPN one? I really can't tell now.

I made a quick attempt to try to find it and nearly had a heart attack reading FB comments about baseball. I don't know why reading people's stupid thoughts and/or opinions raises my blood pressure so much.

The sheer amount of people commenting on these articles who seemingly have no clue as to what salary arbitration is is...interesting.

That Arrieta is such a team player! Taking a one year deal for 1/3 what greedy guys like David Price make!

Plus people flat out slamming Heyward for being so greedy compared to good ol' Jake.

Of course, then there's scores of people who apparently think Arrieta is a single season fluke and that he can't be relied on because of how his season ended.

And the random arguments about how the Cubs aren't that good because they don't have enough pitching to win a World Series.

And the variation of that, "the bullpen still is a problem from last year and never got fixed in the offseason."

Though I did see an odd number of people saying things like "now the Cubs easily have the best rotation in baseball." Apparently the Cubs are all things to all people.

Same.

BTW, I'm so horsefeathering tired of the Arrieta having had one good year narrative...only topped by the one good second half narrative.

Goes to show how little attention was paid to the team in 2014, I guess. And that lots of people still look only at W-L and maybe ERA. I still wouldn't give him 7 years, but yeah.

Bumping this because it is now getting wide spread coverage from most sports sites that cover MLB, ESPN, Foxsports, etc. I guess I would like to know what you would offer as your best proposal to Jake? Bear in mind the the recent spate of articles detailing how the Cubs first offered 4/84 last year and Jake's agent (Boras) using Scherzer's 7/210 as a "Starting Point". Based on this I just can't see the Cubs FO going for more than 6 years max. Would you propose something like this to try and meet in the middle and bridge the gap or if not how different would your contract parameters be?

6/186M

Year 6 2022 5th year FA 29M or 7M buyout depending on objectives from 2021 (200 innings pitched, sub 2.50 ERA, top 5 in Cy Young as examples, 20-25 Quality starts)
