they did the deadspin awards in NYC 12/5 and his last tweet was 12/5. So it seems like a good chance that the accident they refer to was automobile related either in NYC or upon his return to Maryland.

first thought was autoerotic asphyxiation.

That's your FIRST thought?

I've read A LOT of Drew Magary's stuff.

Good point; nobody likes a lonely hotel jerk more than Drew.

Also don't know why I thought I was replying to 17 Seconds.

i hope drew magary is okay

very worrying tweets from people who seemingly know what's going on.

All I saw was the Deadspin article on him and Roth's tweet. Both were somewhat light hearted, so I was hoping it was nothing serious. If it was life threatening, I feel like they wouldn't talk about putting him on "injured reserve."

What are you reading? Man, hope it's nothing serious.

Just the cryptic tweets from others, and noting they won't be saying what happened out of respect for the family. People who don't tend to talk about thoughts and prayers asking for prayers.

Also, he did just publish his story about Anthony Bourdain so stuff is at the back of your mind.

I thinking/hoping it's more that he's their most high profile writer, he has a bunch of stuff coming out now that people expressly come to the site for, so it's something they had to make a statement over because people were going to be wondering where he was.

Well yeah, that was deadspin's reason for posting. They had to say something. But 5 days in and he hasn't tweeted? If he broke a leg he'd have already written what an idiot he was. They aren't going to say anything beyond "accident" out of respect for the family suggests something that required serious procedures.

Now I feel gross having speculated about it.

Yeah, the article begins with "Irredeemable Vikings Fan", doesnt sound like something they would write if he was about to die.

I'm guessing its a fairly serious car accident but not one that is life threatening.

I'm just saying, if it was something more serious beyond, say, the guy was in a car accident and is doped to the gills on painkillers (which is still incredibly serious), I just don't see them putting out something with the tone of the announcement, or waiting 5 days to do so.

Who knows; maybe his wife is refusing to give him internet access because he's a giant boy with two cartoonishly broken legs that need to heal and she can.

This is a pre-eulogy

Okay, before we get to the Email of the Week, I’d like to introduce a a new segment in honor of the Funbag’s true keeper. It is now time for the Drew Story of the Week!

So, the night before Deadspin Awards we all hung out at the office and had some pizza and beer. After a few hours only a handful of us remained, and we decided we’d go to a nearby bar to get one more drink. As I was telling people where we were going, Drew came up to me and asked if we could go to the bar he had walked by on his way to the office, the one that was all decked out in Christmas decorations. I was pleased to inform him that I was indeed taking us to that bar, a which point he clapped his hands together, held them under his chin, and made a face like a 12-year-old who had just been told that Santa had delivered double the presents this year.

There are many things to love about Drew, but the thing I love the most about him is how effusively he lives his life, and how willing he is to be made giddy by the world’s smallest pleasures, whether it be a dopey [expletive]-rock band or an incredible football play or a bunch of Christmas decorations. I wish I could be more like that.

Blargh. I just read that, and now I'm worried it was something like a stroke or an aneurysm or something. This sucking stinks. I'm super worried about this guy I don't even know like he's some old drinking buddy.
