Sources tell 670 The Score that as overwhelmed university officials are dithering and providing little guidance, the group of trustees, boosters and alums left to run things can’t yet agree on much. Some want to hire a search firm with a spotty recent track record, others want to form their own search committee, while another faction thinks they need to act faster by using their own contacts to target specific AD and coaching candidates right now and just get moving.

 

This hire will have be a home run to prevent the regression of Illini sports (sans Baseball last year).

 

To throw into the mix they supposedly have mentioned Bud Foster as a coaching candidate despite not even being able to decide on how conduct a search for AD once George declined is bizarre.

 

IMO, they should put Tom Bowen of Memphis and Oliver Luck (Former WV AD, currently with NCAA, Andrew Luck's dad) at the top of their list.

Anyway, if there was anything good about Thomas, it's how different he tried to be than Guenther (a colossal failure). I really hope we try to break the bank on this and the football hire. Potential is extremely high at U of I, but we've had inept leadership for 20 years.

Now, there are rumors of them offering Cubit a 2 year deal?

 

Nothing gets solved for the program by doing that. If I'm a recruit, unless there's some geographical and family reason, I would not want to go there knowing he's on a two year deal with a different AD.

Living in Central Illinois what I find alarming about Illinois, is not that the fans are angry, it's that they just don't care anymore. They need something that has some zip to it. Probably need to overpay for a coach and then be willing to pony up big for coordinators.
