You hear interest in Price, Greinke and Zimmerman a lot. What's the argument against Johnny Cueto?

I've mentioned him fairly often and hate the idea of Zimmerman.

It doesn't seem like we have much interest in him. Personally, I'd be OK with him, but at a price. 5/90 or something of that sort. Which very well may be a back handed turn down, as he's likely to get more than that elsewhere.

I don't have anything to back this up, but I honestly think I'd take Shark's next 5 years over Cueto's(or Zimmermann's). I guess I'm buying into Shark's durability, while questioning both those guys.

An unfair but illustrative comparison:

A: 3.36 FIP, 3.25 xFIP

B: 3.53 FIP, 3.78 xFIP

C: 3.68 FIP, 3.47 xFIP

Which is Cueto, which is Hendricks, and which is Hammel?

just sign one of heyward/price/greinke and samardzija and then trade for either a decent (meaning 2-3 win) CF or a decent starter with minor leaguers only. i don't like getting more specific than that on trades because who the hell knows who is out there and who wants what. too many variables. then go out and win 100 games.

That's basically where I'm at too.

True, but Cueto is also kind of the anti-Jaxon. He annually out-ERA's his FIP and xFIP. He also managed to pitch 210+IP in 3 of the last 4 years.

This is the big thing for me with any pitcher we get. No more of this 5, maybe 6 inning stuff. I get why it worked that way last year, but I don't like it.

Yep, that's the unfair part, Cueto has 1400 MLB innings and has outperformed his FIP by half a run, on a .274 BABIP. He is a very good pitcher. If we're talking about spending the money that he'll command though, he's down my list of preferences, and honestly I'd probably rather spend less on a slightly lesser pitcher that I have more confidence in and use the savings elsewhere.

Cueto cannot pitch on the road in a playoff game, so no thanks.

i do not want cueto but this is definitely not why lmao

you must not want price either. gutless chocking dog.

If the Cubs go out and get a pitcher, it won't be a guy that only goes 5, maybe 6 innings. Guys like that don't get paid much or have much of a trade market. People aren't knocking down the door to get Jason Hammel.

Yeah, I'd rather have Shark at the prices forecasted for each guy.
