Blue jay fans are being [expletive] jackasses though. Throwing beer cans onto the field and [expletive].

Throwing things onto the field is bad enough, but tossing them down to the lower level from the upper deck is downright dangerous.

this postseason has been wildly entertaining.

wtf happened? The stupid ESPN radio announcers have not explained it at all. All I know is it involved Choo's bat and a runner scoring.

After a pitch, Martin went to throw the ball back to the pitcher but it hit Choo's bat (standing in the batters box) and went towards 3rd. Odor ran home but the HP ump called the ball dead before he got there. By rule the ball should've been still alive.

After the play, the umps got together and ruled that Odor should and would've scored, so they awarded the run, and everything went to hell.

ah thanks. Was his bat outstretched over the plate though? Sounds like a dumb rule if it was.

Nope, he was completely in the batters box. The rule is correct, the ump shouldn't have called the play dead.

Choo stretched his arm(and therefore the bat) as part of his pre-pitch routine(e.g. it wasn't intentional), but his bat was still inside the box, if only barely.

Odor was not halfway down the line when the ump clearly called timeout. Runner should be at 3B.

Man, WHAT are you watching...he is actually about 3/4 of the way down the line by the time the ump waves for time. You must have some heartfelt sympathy toward the Blue Jays or something.

cards are going to spend the next 5 months scouting how each catcher throws the ball back and practicing holding their bats in exactly the right/wrong place.

Choo's bat was probably not over the plate, but it looked like it was at least between the batters box and the plate. The way he held it out seems unusual, though is probably his normal routine. It's mostly a result of the new rule not allowing players to step outside the box, which is hilarious.

feels good to watch this and know that the cubs have already advanced. i can't even imagine how stressful this must be for tex/tor fans.

Yeah, he was almost to the ump when the call was made.

Also:

Andrus must be Canadian

Leave to the catcher to actually know how to catch a ball.

Um, no.

He was about halfway, but my point is that it doesn't matter because the umps can't award home plate after a time out. It's like an inadvertant whistle in football. If a ref blows a play dead, a team could pick up a fumble and run it back for a TD and it wouldn't matter. A dead ball is a dead ball.

Got a MLB rule citation for that?
