It looks like they separate out the samples for players who were traded mid-year.

 

Castillo was +.2 with the Cubs with a sample of 590. With the Mariners, he was -.9 over 465 and then the -9.4 over 4876 with the DBacks. I wonder if that's completely a sample size issue, there's a coaching explanation, or if the Cubs staff is just a bit more frameable.

So Montero is actually a better pitch framer than David Ross, and yet Ross still has a roster spot and starts several games a week

 

I mean, it can't be helped at this point, but what the heck is Lester on about with this guy?

I didn't realize people still had a problem with David Ross.

I'm pretty sure many people still have a problem with Jon Lester.

Probably a bit of both. BP's framing numbers look to account for what a catcher's pitching staff is like, umpires, and other factors. For reference, Montero is 4th in theirs at 12.8, Ross is 23rd at 3.4, and Schwarber is 66th at -0.2
