Eh people who call into talk radio are stupid. It might be the same people.

Still, this game it seems hit on all phases of bad. I think you can be accepting of a rebuild season but still be pissed when it doesn't seem like even incremental improvements are being made.

Maybe I should bite my tongue then because I couldn't watch the game, was able to check the score every so often when my cell phone had reception. The score looked bad but I knew the defense was really bad going in and when I saw Cutler go down (along with Jeffery going out) I just assumed it was going to be an ugly blowout so I didn't get any angst that you would get from actually watching your favorite team get destroyed.

Also, I do disagree with the 'different people calling in' thing. There are like a pool of 100 people that call into sports talk shows, these are definitely the same guys I heard all throughout training camp and preseason.

There are probably less than 100 regular posters on NSBB and we had every opinion imaginable on the last 5 years.

And then you'd see the same arguments "YOU GUYS KNEW THIS WOULD BE AN UGLY FEW YEARS. THEY'RE REBUILDING!!!"

"I WAS NEVER ON BOARD WITH THE REBUILD. THEY SHOULD NEVER HAVE TANKED"

"YEAH YOU WERE BECAUSE SOME OTHER NSBBers WERE"

Even if they are the same people (they probably aren't), you are probably interpreting their statements wrong but there is also nothing wrong with having those sentiments.

You can know a team is going to suck and it's going to be a rebuilding year and still get upset watching a shitty team. It's ridiculous to attempt to call people out for having those feelings.

And those people deserve to be called out. There are a strong contingent here that was consistent in their acceptance of a rebuilding and didn't rant about how the Cubs were the worst run organization in sports (like one Bears caller suggested this morning) because Chris Rusin had a bad start 2 weeks into the 2012 season.

you're all over the place here

the point is that the people who are complaining today don't have to be the same people who were saying a few weeks ago that they knew we were gonna suck and are cool with it or whatever...and even if they were, they have every right to complain if the play doesn't meet whatever expectations they did have (i.e. maybe certain players that they expect development from for the long term or whatnot)

Nobody who is criticizing the Bears deserves to be called out. They've been a disaster and their current regime is nothing resembling Theo Epstein. Ryan Pace has done nothing in his career and John Fox is as bland a head coach as you'll get. Competent, but nothing resembling a star. The organization is very poorly run.

also football isn't baseball and given the parity and the depth of quality impact talent in the NFL draft, i don't think tanking is ever the right route to take barring extreme circumstances (i.e. some sure fire #1 QB like andrew luck being available and a roster that's already in complete disarray anyway)

It's stupid to be ok of a rebuilding year and then after 2 weeks be ranting about how everything is a disaster when you have a new GM who is stripping the team of veterans and in my opinion trying to get a high draft pick, a new coach, new defensive scheme and several key injuries, not to mention a very tough first 2 games. It's ok to rant at the individual players or plays, or pick apart coaching decisions, but ripping the organization or the organizational plan after 2 games given the factors I just listed is stupid.

We will have to agree to disagree on whether the same people are calling into the shows because its the really the key point to both of our arguments. If you can prove that these are different people, I will concede defeat, but as an unfortunate avid listener to sports radio, I do not believe this is the case.

I'm the one that has to prove that the handful of callers you are generally referring to aren't the same people as the handful you heard 6 weeks ago or something?

+1

This is football, not baseball. The manner in which you rebuild a [expletive] organization is very different and - at the risk of repeating goony's point - Ryan Pace has a lot to prove. I am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt for one more draft and free agency cycle, but if they don't win 8 or so games next season (i.e., competitive mediocrity) then you have to wonder about his competence as well.

John Fox and his staff have more credibility in my eyes. Pace needs to get them some talent next season. We have maybe two keepers on the O-Line, the defense is an absolute mess, and our depth sucks as evidenced by the horrendous kick coverage.

In short - the Bears suck, I accept that we have to re-build due to horrendous drafting by the previous administrations, and I am still going to acknowledge and sometimes complain about it.

Sorry, but it's really stupid to criticize fans for criticizing a poorly run organization that is playing poorly.

You sound ridiculous.

NFL teams that suck don't suck because they are doing it on purpose for some grand scheme. They suck because they suck.

meh, agree to disagree. it's stupid to even complain about sports talk radio in any capacity anyways so I guess point to you.

lol yeah if you want to get me to change my mind. I believe I am right but I'm sick of defending my argument 2 vs 1 so this is the last comment I will make on it because its really not a particularly strong opinion that I have and its not worth battling jersey on (who I respect but I hate being on the opposing side of). David has been caught up in enough of these 1 on 2+ arguments himself that I don't mind if he's arguing against me.

I don't think it's wrong to complain about your team being bad, but I do feel sorry for anyone who expected a different result beginning the season with 3 playoff caliber teams while not having healthy WRs, and your QB now hurt.

I for one think the offense is a decent step better than it was last year. Of course it'll take us nowhere as long as our defense remains as it is, but it's something I guess.

Maybe it was just a bad week, but it sounds like the D regressed this week , even accounting for the fact that Claussen might have not a good job keeping them off the field. Though honestly they exceeded expectations week 1. Maybe if the results were flipped it would have been better received.

I didn't have high expectations for this ST coach, but a 108 yard return is always disappointing.

What a [expletive] game to go to. Left at the end of the 3rd quarter but made it to the bar to watch the end of the Cubs game. Other than the Oakland game I really don't see any game in the next four or five that the Bears have even a decent chance of winning if Cutler is out for the next month or so.

You have to squint to see the Oakland game as a win if Clausen is the QB.

Thank goodness I had the distraction of manning a grill yesterday.

Took my first trip over to WF for the 2016 mock draft. :(

#FailForCardale

Didn't Cardale get benched Saturday?

Goff looks like a top 10 pick, though. And there's some elite defensive players and OL at the top of the draft.

The Bears need OL's and every position on defense. They are therefore stuck with Cutler or whoever is on the scrap heap in free agency. You can't go spending picks on QB when your lines on both sides are awful, LB's are meh at best, and backfield is manned by a bunch of guys who belong on 2nd string or PS.

And don't think for a second that John Fox doesn't know what the primary needs are. He won a bunch of games and nearly a SB in Carolina with Jake Dellhome at QB and later made the playoffs with freaking Tim Tebow, who literally cannot throw the ball at the pro level (and arguably couldn't in college either). This is not because Fox is some QB whisperer, but because those teams were solid to spectacular up-front on both sides and had playmakers at skill positions.
