The Cubs will open the 2016 season with road series against the Angels and Diamondbacks, according to a National League source. They will play home interleague series against the Rangers and Mariners, travel to play the Athletics and have the usual home-and-home series with the White Sox. The entire schedule will be announced Tuesday at noon.

it's been so long since we've been watching relevant baseball this late in the year that this news totally caught me off guard. feels like the 2016 season is really far away and i felt like this was really early to be releasing the schedule.

In Anaheim Opening Day will be interesting. That means either a 4 pm or 10 pm start, neither of which we see a lot of on Opening Day. Think we've opened in daytime every day since...maybe 2005 when we opened at Arizona?

I always fear facing really good aces on Opening Day and Los Angeles doesn't really have one pending a good offseason. Garrett Richards is good but I wouldn't call him an ace by any stretch. Also starting with the DH is awesome.

2005 was a daytime start. Watched the full game prior to the Illinois basketball game.

yeah wasn't that the pierre leading off with a triple and zambrano giving up a million runs game?

Cubs won that game 16-6 and 2005 was going to be the most awesome year ever

ugh i always mix up the fact that it was 2005 (december) when we got pierre but he didn't play for us until 2006. that was against the reds.

i was right on zambrano tho. it was his first of the many awful opening day starts.

MLB schedule releases always surprise me, and everytime I struggle to remember why they bother doing it during the season.

Yeah, seems like it'd be a good "Hey, remember baseball" thing to release in the offseason.

Unless they need to have it out early so teams can start working on travel arrangements already?
