It is really hard to figure how Forte could have had that bad a day even beyond the traditional numbers. Like, what could they have seen in that performance to evaluate it negatively? Should every run have been twice as long based on the hole he had or something?

he was bad in the passing game, and while he had some good runs, he was chased down by a linebacker and never made an impact run on his own. Most of it was what the left side of the line opened up for him.

i agree with all of that...and i still have a hard time seeing how he was overall a detriment to the team in yesterday's game.

they must be killing him for that drop (and i guess the much more difficult catch where he didn't get two feet in)

but his rushing grade is negative too

meh i guess i get the logic

While I love looking at the PFF numbers and post them every week there is a level of objectivity to them (basically every play is graded between +2 and -2 based on what the reviewer sees) so I think theres always a chance of disagreement.

^Subjectivity?

Anyway, FWIW:

http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/football/bears/ct-10-thoughts-bears-packers-20150913-story.html

“We did a lot of studying really the last two weeks of what Coach (Vic) Fangio did against us when he was in San Francisco,” Lang said. “We had a lot of our game plan based on that just because of the limited amount of snaps we had to go off of from the preseason games.”

How much of what the Packers encountered looked familiar from playing Fangio when he was with San Francisco?

“Good amount,” Lang said. “They were playing us nickel to our sub package and rolling a safety down late to try to help against the run, which is a lot of the same stuff we saw against San Francisco. I think it is a good defense. I think they are only going to get better the more they play. By Thanksgiving next time we see them, I think that is going to be a new team. Obviously, you can tell there are some learning curves there with it being a first-year system, but they’ve got some good players.”

The turnover in personnel hasn’t been that great on defense, probably not as much as the Bears would like. The Packers scored a combined 93 points in the two meetings in 2014.

“Last year, they were pretty vanilla,” Lang said. “We didn’t see a lot of different stuff out of them. I think they had one or two blitzes. At this level, you’re going to sniff that out every time. They were way different this year. I think they did a good job of changing some stuff up against us, especially the third-down package. Three-guy rushes, a couple empty blitzes there trying to get pressure, they are definitely more complex.”

God it makes me so angry to hear that. I mean there had to be some redeeming quality that made Mel Tucker a viable defensive coordinator right?

And yes subjectivity, I always mix those up.

we have amazing coaching this year. we will be formidable against most teams.

if not for some ridiculously difficult catches, and they needed every single one of them, made by packer scrub receivers, we win the game.

Cutler was graded at the 5th worst QB yesterday according to PFF (-2.4), Rodgers graded the highest (+6.0)

Seems strange, Cutler missed some throws and the INT wasn't very good but it seemed more like a neutral performance than one of the worst in the league.

he's not getting any credit for recognizing and diagnosing. he made some really solid audible calls that gained some yards.

oh, and look, Shea is good.

Ball played really well, even with James Jones having the greatest catching day of his career, he still graded out as average. Again, he was very very good last year and the year before that, i think ranked 5 among all CBs and nickels in terms of yards per coverage snap.

I think Forte played ok, he actually broke some tackles and got some hard yards, especially on that 4th and inches. Cutler gets an incomplete because he was busy thinking the whole game and had little time to make plays. he's not comfortable yet in the new offense, you can tell that. nonetheless, he looked like a leader yesterday. He's going to throw more interceptions, he's going to throw more touchdowns.

The offensive line looked bad, but Ducasse will be replaced and Long will have another week of experience. Bushrod went unnoticed which is a great thing, didn't see Matthews in the backfield all that much, unless he was intentionally unblocked.

The running game was very encouraging, very encouraging, we moved the ball well, and the packers have some pro-bowlers on defense, it's not like they're horrible.

Overall, very encouraging. Let them get comfortable, and they'll be alright.

I think the only time his name was brought up on the broadcast was when Lacy was pushing him back a few yards while Shea held on for dear life. Solid, if unspectacular play though.

Jared Allen just needs to be cut at this point, maybe there's not someone better to take his spot but there's someone and younger and worst case scenario is, it helps us lose more games.

If the Bears start 0-3 like we should expect, will the Bears start shopping Forte around?

don't forget that he's calling the signals, too.

if Ducasse is indeed replaced, who will it be replacing him?

dude they got from tampa, figured they wanted to get him another week of practice.

Was really surprised Lamarr Houston only got 4 plays.

Whats his deal? I don't remember hearing him much in the preseason. Is he maybe still getting his explosiveness back after the ACL injury, or is the coaching staff just not sold on him in general?

There is still so much roster shakeup on the coming horizon. This is patchwork 3-4 defense.

Overall very encouraging and you can tell that the coaching staff is solid. The Bears looked somewhat ready and competent. I was expecting a blowout and they kept it close for 3 quarters. I thought Adam Gase was terrific with his play calls/design of the offense. He had a rolling pocket for Jay a number of times and kept the defense on their heels with the quick screen game. We have to continue to root for 5 wins or less this season to get a shot at a good QB prospect in the draft.

Apparently it was because of the Packers hurry up offense - not really buying it but okay:

B+B making fun of the fact callers keep talking about how great it was that all the plays were called on time, not a ton of stupid mistakes, etc and how that's how we define success. Mind you they weren't making of the callers (for once), but the fact that we've stooped this low.

Yeah Bernstein is off today - probably why they weren't making fun of the callers

This is definitely going to be the most professionally run 10 loss team in the league.

you know what's crazy? think about the last time you could say that the bears have had a really good coordinator on either offense or defense.... is it ron rivera? maybe marinelli?
