What is he? Good? This wouldn't be true.

Team is still young and will make mistakes but Bryant cost the team 2 runs in that inning.

you don't need to come up with a reason to justify mistakes. all baseball teams make them and will make them, not just young ones. they play lots of games and attempt lots of things during those games.

Not to mention, sure, that play led to 2 runs. But, you don't know that at the time. It was a dumb play, especially with the bottom of the order coming up. But, it was only magnified by the Markakis double. If we get out of it, then no harm, no foul.

It was just [expletive] sequencing luck the whole inning. Two BS hits and then one bad pitch. The world doesn't end, and it doesn't make Bryant's decision the worst thing ever. It just baseball.

yep it's just more of the narratives stuff

in 211 career innings, hendricks has 3.6 fWAR and a 3.62 xFIP

yes, he's quite good

especially when he's your 3rd or 4th best starter

The only thing I don't like about Hendricks is he cannot miss bats to pitch out of jams whether he gets into those jams because of bad defense or bad luck or bad pitching. This leads to productive outs and runs that other pitchers with swing and miss stuff would at least have a puncher's chance at preventing. He's a good backend of the rotation piece but he will always give up runs in games even when it feels like he pitched well. I'm not watching this game so I can't really speak to it but this is how I feel about him in a general sense.

Pitchers like Hendricks are more susceptible to sequencing luck.

not sure what this is a reply to. my post was about how people want to say "young teams make mistakes" or whatever when a mistake is made.

I hate to say this but this is one of the few siutations i would bunt.

2nd and 3rd with 1 out and 2 hot hitters in russell and fowler due

Edit: well I guess 1st and 3rd with 0 out and a runner in is pretty good too :)

It's the same argument I had with Brett. It's not terrible but his swing strike% is like 4th worst among qualified starters. The K/9 stat can be really deceiving. I like Hendricks a lot, I just know there are going to be frustrating unlucky starts because he allows contact.
