I'm afraid the bandwidth looks like it will become an issue pretty soon. I've already consumed about 13% of my available bandwidth for the month (about 647M of 5G).

Due to some really exciting things we've got planned for later in the month, I'm anticipating that requirements are going to go even higher than the growth we're currently experiencing.

Therefore, I'm going to cut out some of the larger avatars on the site. I'll try to replace them with a smaller version of the same avatar, where I can.

Thanks for your understanding.

I've been designing websites since 1995 and can't help but kibbitz here: you may want to eliminate avatars altogether, and trim down everything else you can on other sections of the site.

It's fun to play with graphics, but they aren't really necessary on a discussion board. And, generally speaking, the fewer the bells and whistles the more usable the web page. It's worth noting that the sites everyone uses (one example: Yahoo) are almost always very simple sites without superfluous graphics and with Java/Javascript/Flash/etc. used sparingly. Good web design is content-driven, and paring your website down will only improve it.

I didn't know you were having an issue with this. I'll get rid of the graphic from my profile to help out (although, I know it's not much help...)

Thanks. The site is growing much faster than I had even hoped that it would. I'm over 1G of bandwidth used up this month already. Which is great, but if I exceed my quota of 5G, the price skyrockets. This provider is very good and very reasonably priced, but I may soon have to start scouting for one with greater bandwidth.

You can remove mine too Tim.

Actually you can remove it yourself. Just go to your profile and click the box for removing the avatar.

Done!

Seems like most posters are happy to go for content rather than 'good looks' - IMHO good content is what seperates this board from 'the other board'.

I have clicked on my avatar and I can't get rid of it. I do not see a place or spot where it says avatars either under profile.

When you click on Profile, at the bottom of the peag there should be an area with the heading "Avatar control panel." There is a box you can check marked "Delete Image," then click on the Submit button.

NCCF,

I did what you suggested and I do not have anything that says avatar conrol panal or even an avatar anything.

I removed it for you, Cuse. Very odd you were unable to do so, though...

Thanks ML! I think Tim shafted me on my options!

Yup, he musta stuck in a line somewhere "if ( user == "CuseCubsFan69" ) DoBadThings( ); You give some guys absolute power and it just rushes to their heads...

Seriously, if you notice any other oddities with your account, don't hesitate to pipe up. This message board software seems pretty good, but there are curious little glitches happening here and there for no discernable reason.

He probably did do that! He's just jealous that we won the National Championship and couldn't handle it!

I will ML and this site is wonderful. Come to think of it though, I have had some strange glitches in which the unread sites became read somehow. The icons where colored then they weren't for some strange reason even though I didn't read them.

I wouldn't have come here myself if I hadn't known up front that Tim would do a flat out amazing job.

I'm having the exact opposite over the last 2 days: threads I've read still being marked as having unread messages. Hmm...

Cuse,

Sorry about the troubles. I had all my forums go to "Read" this morning, as well. I'm not sure what happened, but I'll look into it.

It's no big worry SCF. I just thought you should know.

Thanks for the update. I want this to run as smoothly as possible, so I appreciate you letting me know about any bugs/possible improvements.

As for this glitch, it was an inconvenience when it happened, but I was able to go by the date/time listed on the forums and threads to see what I hadn't checked yet. I was thinking my problem was caused by having three browsers open simultaneously on the site (I was doing some admin work).

Maybe that wasn't the case.

SCF,

I haven't had the problem since this morning when I first opened the site. I haven't been on the computer since Thursday or Friday so I knew I had a bunch of unread posts.

Maybe the problem is that the site missed you and was sending a signal you shouldn't stay away that long. :D

Tell "Hal" I can't always be there!

I can't believe the amount of posts that were made in that timespan. A month ago it was so slow. Your site has really taken off my friend.

Don't say things like that, Dave. Remember what happened to Frank.
