Almost everyone on the Giants looks like they fell out of a dumpster.

my niece was saying the same thing at the game

Grant Brisbee has a way with visual comparisons that kill me every single time.

The biggest hit of the night for the Cubs came off the bat of Kyle Schwarber, who looks like a Joe Blanton made out of Play-Doh that someone kept adding to and meticulously sculpting, and it wasn't on one of the 25 worst pitches of Heston's night.

Still annoyed that they stopped Rizzo with 2 outs and Castro coming up and a 5-2 lead. Little to lose.

I like being aggressive but it wouldn't have just taken a decent throw or relay. Basically anything that wasn't spiked or thrown to the backstop was going to have him out by a wide margin. That ball was ripped and he was 2-3 steps away from 3rd when the LF had it and not all that deep.

I went to a not very crowded bar with many tvs and both the Mets and Yankees featured prominently. Before I had a chance to ask they were tuning what was the third most prominent feed to the Cubs game. Not sure how that happened but I sure won't complain.

with a 3 run lead, that extra run is gravy so it's not like you're dead if he's out. starlin castro is up next and he is not good. i'd rather gamble on them [expletive] that play up than starlin getting a hit there (or not making an out and then the next guy getting a hit).

This is strangely accurate.

I'm going tonight, please don't lose cobs

Really good crowd last night - probably the best crowd since the Peralta game last month.

Going again Saturday, I have a feeling that's also going to be an electric atmosphere.

I'd rather gamble on the .238 chance that Castro gets a hit than what I anticipate was the far less than that chance of SF [expletive] that play up. Lobbed throws would've nailed Rizzo on that play.

Plus sending a guy barreling around 3B to try and score when you're up 5-2 still seems like a recipe for unnecessarily upping the injury risk to your best hitter. If they're down or tied, alright, but 5-2? How is this not just the hindsight talking?

Brisbee is just the best.

Kind of odd how the Pirates have had one of the best framers two years in a row and Russell Martin has sunk really low now that he's off the Pirates.

To be fair, Martin has also been catching a knuckleballer and a few other guys with poor command, like Aaron Sanchez. BP's pitch framing numbers are probably better, as they account for pitchers, umpires, and other factors, as well. I'm not sure if BP has shown exactly how they capture the effect of the pitcher and umpire. But, it seems like something is needed, rather than just raw data on strikes gained and lost. It has been shown that wild pitchers get fewer borderline calls than pitchers with excellent control. I mean, it's pretty obvious that it would be easier to frame Greg Maddux's pitches than Tim Wakefield's.

Here you can see Martin still rates favorably at BP, after adjusting for the wildness of some of Toronto's pitchers:
