I think he needs to modify his swing. However the wind was blowing in alot at Wrigley this year too. Its hard to hit a homer on a mile high fly ball when that happens..

Forget the stats, just watch the games there have been several times with the wind blowing in that his homers were deep warning track flyouts. There was 2 in the Hamel no hitter alone.

In general yes, but in this case I kind of get what he's saying. If we can credit Bryant with a few HRs-that-weren't because of the wind blowing in, his stats look much better. Of course he neglects that we would then need to debit the HRs-that-shouldn't-have-been because the wind was blowing out, and it just devolves into this whole big mess.

It's much more reasonable to keep it simple: as hard as Bryant is hitting the ball, he should have more home runs than he does, so there are reasons to expect improvement.

Troubled by how many hittable pitches he just flat out whiffs on. Guessing something is wrong with his swing over the past month or so.

He's been brutal at the plate for over a month, but I'm not really worried about him. Maybe I should be more, but everything says he's been unlucky.

Exactly he wiffs on at least 1 meat ball every night. thats just not good. its downright bad.

It's pretty simple. Look to hit the ball to right field. As long as he's trying to hit everything to left, he's going to see a constant diet of off speed stuff on the outside black. Until he looks at right field, he'll continue to start his swing too early, hit the ball waaaay outside of his body, and either whiff or roll over. Once he starts hitting that 83 mph change on the outter half, he'll get more fastballs, which means he'll get more dingers.

another thing I wonder is if he has trouble recognizing pitches. Seems like he gets K'd on change ups most of the time. It's one thing to get K'd on a great change up. . .but he's whiffing on everyone's change up. He's swinging over them, too. Timing is all screwed up.

My only reference is the kids i coach. When one of my kids gets consistently beat by offspeed stuff, we go to the cage and I make them hit everything -- BP, tee work, soft toss -- to right field. Everything is a fastball -- hit the fastball to opposite field. If nothing else, it allows that changeup to get inside the hitting zone when they swing. I guess it's a form of resetting the hitter's timing.

that said, KB is really in sad shape if he were to ever take advice from a bum like me!

I think it's possible he doesn't recognize change ups as well, but Bryant recognizes off speed stuff with different spin as well as anyone I've seen. I don't think that's near the top of the list of his current problems.

Yea, he's hit curves an sliders pretty well. . . . the change up has been a killer. I should have been more specific when I said "off speed."

He's freakishly quick. . . .he shouldn't have any problem letting the ball get deeper. That just screams that it's more of a lack of confidence / mental thing than a mechanical thing.

What still amazes me is that he's hitting like a pitcher for a month, but with 3 ball counts pitchers still throw junk on the corners. They're still afraid to give him a fastball.

With the problems he's been having, why wouldn't you throw him junk on the corners?

Because with 3 balls you can very easily walk him. Bryant hasn't been chasing a bunch of crap to slump like somebody like Baez.

David, you're trying too hard to turn this into a Javy/Brett Jackson situation when it just isn't the same thing. Oh no, now he'll only be worth 5 wins instead of 7.

There is probably a mirror image of this thread with the same nonsense in the LA Dodger universe going on right now....

Kris Bryant has better D ratings this year than Pederson does.
