BOURBONNAIS — Kevin White wasn’t using his legs, but he was doing more. And that’s a positive sign for the first-round pick, who has been sidelined for weeks with shin splints.

White worked with other receivers after practice at Olivet Nazarene University on Wednesday. He caught passes while positioned on his knees.

“You can call it splints, call it whatever you want,” coach John Fox said. “You see him out here. It’s not like we’re covering up some awful injury where he’s in a cast, a boot and crutches. We’ve got a plan for him. We’ve wanted to rest it.

“It was done in [organized team activities]. Most of you [media members] were here to watch that. He practiced. He did a great job. He’s a heck of a fine young player. It flared up. We shut him down for six weeks, now going on seven, and we’re easing him back.”

Fox said White is on his case to return to practice.

“He’s [chomping] at the bit,” Fox said. “He’s mad at me right now because I won’t let him practice, but we’re going to be smart. He is going to be a viable part of our football team. He’s doing things with the trainers, and we’re going to ramp it up as we go. I can’t predict the future. But it’s what it is. It flared up. We’re trying to get it to settle down, and we’ll see where it goes.”

Okay, the McClellin one we've definitely heard before.

What kind of "not a big deal" injury to your legs requires being shut down for seven weeks? I'm definitely concerned.

Makes sense to be overly cautious with it because reaggravating it is easy and it could become a major nuisance during the season.

Doesn't mean they're not lying. Just saying it'd make sense.

. @RapSheet just snuck in some telling news on Kevin White's status. Says PUP to start the regular season on the table.

Fox said on 670 that White has no current symptoms, but they don't want it to flare up again. Pace said he'll begin running on grass next week.

Yep.

Gotta be a stress fracture, right?

Edit: Not that he currently still has a stress fracture, but that it was originally a stress fracture that he is on the backside of. Ive had both shin splints and a stress fracture in my shins, and only one of those kept me from activities for 2 months.

I had shin splints in 8th grade and they were gone in a couple days but looking at shin splints in elite level athletes, people who run for a living, it is not abnormal for it to last a couple months. Normal human activities and NFL level route running are not the same thing.

i will say i'm used to him throwing a bunch of picks at least some days in practice (even against the tucker defenses), so i'm a little encouraged by the fact that he hasn't had one "turnover" yet

even yesterday when the defense, by all accounts, was dominant and causing havoc with a bunch of different looks and exotic blitzes

Well yeah, but they couldn't hit him...so that makes a difference.

But you're right, he still tends to throw picks in TC.

Nah, if you ask Kyle, he's lost it.

Well his arm didn't look insane last year in game play. There hasn't been any word of injury last year has there?

To be fair my situation occurred as a high school track and field athlete, not just normal human activities, but your point still stands.

This has to be the most muted upcoming Bears season I can remember. I'm struggling to find something exciting about this team aside from the coaching schemes changing. Now with Kevin White going to likely be out for at least another week and Goldman always being dehydrated is this team going to be watchable?
