I LOVE Schwarber's bat, but man the Cubs defense is extremely bad. I don't have the stats to back it up, but numbers have to agree with that statement don't they? Between Castro's routine mess-ups, Fowler's notorious bad CF play, Soler's real bad ball routes and dropped fly balls and now Schwarber behind the plate, it is painful. Thank God we'll never see Schwarber behind the plate with Lester on the mound, I would let Eddie Murphy's Nutty Professor character steal on that combo.

The Cubs are dead middle of the pack in defensive efficiency, 7th in the NL and 15th in MLB.

No man, you can't look at stats. You need to watch the game. They just don't have it. Prove me wrong.

I would rather see the Cubs go into sell mode than see them play like this the rest of the year... But they don't really have anything sell-worthy. Fowler, Castro, Coghlan, Motte? .. So looks like we are watching this the rest of the year unless Rizzo and Bryant put this team on their backs like they did in May/June.

It seems like you only post when you have something to criticize, so making the team worse would probably be right up your alley. Even with the last couple weeks being pretty much a disaster, we're at a 42% chance to make the playoffs in late July. Please, like everyone else, just enjoy meaningful baseball for the first time in five years.

(After this, I'm done giving him attention.)

I don't see any way that Theo/Jed don't make a move for some kind of starter by Friday. It might not be who we want, but at least an Ian Kennedy, Mat Latos or Dan Haren.. You want to send a good impression to the fan base, but without selling the farm...

Dude, seriously, this is the epitome of just saying nonsense things.

They have one of the best farm systems in baseball. This is an absurd thing to say.

think debbiedownsr was specifying the major league vets you could move. Sontensei has a nice thread on that already

Re-reading it you're right. I think my mind is just blanking when encountering anyone who wants the Cubs to start selling off pieces en masse yet again at this point.

How does that not make sense to you?

If any move they make is driven in any significant way by something as meaningless as "making a good impression on the fanbase" as a real priority as opposed to doing what it takes to actually improve the team then they're a pack of useless jackal-monsters feasting on our souls.

I firmly believe that the front office would be completely content with standing pat, but you also don't want your fans to see you do nothing when in position to make a move.. This happens every year. Fans pay the salaries, if they see the front office sit still, they lose loyalty. No different than Dombrowski saying "we want to show our fans we aren't giving up."
