Isn't that basically all he did with the Cardinals?

Motte's K/9 the last 2 years before TJS was 8.34 and 10.75. This year it's 5.65. Unless he sustains an unsustainable BABIP he can't continue to succeed doing what he's been doing so far - not at this level, anyway.

Motte has always been a fastball pitcher, yes. But he was only about 1 MPH faster those last two seasons, so velocity isn't the difference. He was throwing 20-25% cutters, and clearly it was an effective knockout pitch for him. If he's going to keep up his current success, he's going to need to get the same mileage out of that pitch. And he threw the best one I've seen him throw this season tonight.

#whataboutthe5gamesyoulost

Anytime you go through a losing streak, that first W to break the cycle is a big one. And while a 5 game streak is relatively tame, being over a 6 day period makes it feel longer, it's magnified by the fact that 3 of them were at the claws of our arch nemesis.

Now if Rizzo, Bryant, and Russell could break out of their little slumps, that would be helpful.

Rizzo, Bryant, Russell over the past 6-

Rizzo .190/.280/.286

Bryant .235/.364/.294

Russell .143/.182/.190

Isn't his K/9 also dragged down by how crappy he initially was?

No. It's been basically unchanged all season.

Ah well. He's still fun to watch.
