'To acquire as much good, young talent as possible via trade, free agency, and the draft.' Or something like that. But that was what Theo said he was going to do. This didn't sit too well with those who'd honestly expected him to take the pile of rubbish left for him by the previous regime, and work the same magic as he did on the perennial >90 game winner he'd inherited in Boston.

For 3 years, Wrigley was a revolving of low risks and no risks. Flash forward, and here's what we have:

Rizzo 1B: Traded for another good, young player. Granted, Cashner would look good in our rotation. But not as good as Rizzo does in the lineup.

Russell 2B: Arguably the greatest asset of the entire lot. We essentially acquired him along with a guy who's arguably one of our top 5 prospect (easily top 10) and a consummate 5-7 SP for a few years of Samardzia. Who again, would look nice in our rotation, but a worthwhile expenditure.

Castro SS: Hendry holdover. But nothing Hendry-esque about the 8/60MM extension.

Bryant 3B: Some might say that if that pitcher whose name eludes me hasn't been give a smack on the wrist for using Adderall or something, we wouldn't have this delightful young man. But judging by the regimes affinity for hitting over pitching, who knows.

Coghlan LF: Peeled off the sidewalk.

Fowler CF: Acquired for a serviceable super sub and an earlier mentioned 5-7 starter.

Soler RF: Agressive IFA campaign.

Montero C: Traded a raw, high ceiling pitching prospect. Who currently has a 6.something ERA, 2.01 WHIP, and 31/17 BB/K (yikes) through 34 IP in low A.

SP Arrieta: Acquired along with an often lights out set up man for 2-3 months of a 3-4 starter and a younger Koyie Hill.

SP: Hammel: Was a steal as a 1/9MM Reclamation. Flipped as part of a huge trade. Stollen back for 2/19MM. I feel actual guilt over this.

SP: Hendricks (and Villanueva) for 2 months of Dempster. Maybe not as sexy as Delgado, but Dempster immediately ceased to be good following the trade.

SP: Wada/Turner :reclamation/waiver trade

Bullpen:

-Rondon: Rule 5. Stuck with him despite bad first year.

-Strop: See Arrieta

-Grimm/Ramirez/Edwards for 2 months of Matt Garza. And we also got the guy who was blocking the guy who they traded us the year before.

-Wood: Perhaps we gloated a bit too soon over that trade. But Wood's still a serviceable middle reliever. And rumor has it that Sean Marshall is still alive.

So of out of our entire team, a serious contender, we have 3 players that we paid market value for, Lester and Jax. I can't think of too many FO teams that could have put this together the way that they did.

I wonder what real life tragedies have Kyle being extra sadsack-y lately.

I'm really not. I can enjoy the year without feeling the need to throw the front office a blowie. Some things have gone well, some have gone wrong. They get a handy at best, and not an especially enthusiastic one.

Cinnabon wouldn't take two 2-for-1 coupons.

I have never in my life used a coupon. I got my dad's Theory of Poor Pride, which says you pay full price and never let 'em see you eat ramen for a week to afford it.

Strap on his crocs broke and the town gas station was out of the duct tape necessary to fix it

I fixed my exercise bike that way this week. The handles broke off, and hell if I'm going to buy a new one when I'm not taking it with me on the move.

Why do I have the feeling that Kyle is studying Dust Bowl-era photos to try and make his move as intentionally depressing as possible.

Is there anything you know about me that makes you think I would ever intentionally talk to the people in my neighborhood?

Oh, I know you wouldn't. But you still want that image.

Honest question: How many teams in baseball would you trade entire major and minor leagues for?

For me, it'd just be the Dodgers and only because of their payroll being limitless.

I would probably say for sure trade with Dodgers and Nationals. Nationals have a solid upcoming youth movement but also are extremely talented at the MLB level. The Dodgers just seem like they 5 of everything. The Pirates would be tempting as well.

Mets, Marlins, Indians, Astros are all notables, but wouldn't put above the Cubs.
