Not sure if you are talking about the contract or how everything played out. For the latter they basically rented him to the Hawks for 3 months for a 1st and two 2nds (right?) and he returned with championship experience. And he might play the last year of that deal in Las Vegas!

Yea the contract is fine- just talking about how it played out.

Not that it didn't play out too shabby for the Hawks as well.

Just got back from the thinking man's Philadelphia (aka Boston) Here's my thoughts on all this:

Dano isn't a center or at least didn't play there last year at Lumbus from what I've heard.

"Ansimov is the Russian Dave Bolland" was my first reaction when I read about the trade. He's good when healthy but more likely 3rd line center.

Tropp is garbage. Morin is just weird. I didn't like that the Hawks had to send back Paliota (sp?) but I guess they needed to do that to get Dano who could be a real find.

Taking the picks was never a realistic option for the Hawks. They still have to trade Sharp, Bickell and Versteeg to make everything else fit.

Paying Saad would have meant trading the rights to Kruger and also trading Shaw in addition to Sharp and Bickell. Much as I love Saad I can see why Bowman didn't want to do that.

I'm not sure if Lumbus was going to make an offer sheet or not, that almost never happens. I think Bowman made the trade to send a message that if you want to stay, take what we offer because we can't / won't give you any more. Hopefully Seabrook is paying attention.

There is a market for Sharp as there are teams that need scoring that might have been waiting to see what they could get in FA before giving up assets. Let's see who shows up at the convention. Last year Leddy wasn't there and he was the one that got traded.

Here's a fun exercise: How many teams in the NHL have a player on their roster that won a Stanley Cup with the Blackhawks?

In the East, I have:

Detroit- Richards

Lumbus- Saad

Florida- Campbell

Isles- Leddy

Phil- Emery

whoever just got Niemi- Niemi

In the West:

St. Louis- Brouewer

Calgary- Frolik

Jets- Ladd and Dat Buffrin guy

PHx- Vermette

Sha arks- Smith

Lumbus is a term of affection. I will stop.

I appreciate the endearment, I've just never heard that particular nickname

Desjardin took $800k to stick around. Good, he really settled in and was very solid in the playoffs.

i really like that trade now

Wish it was only one year but at that salary there's really no risk of that contract being a burden.

What's especially silly about that piece was his trying to make Columbus equal to Buffalo/Edmonton on a hockey level. He clearly has zero idea where any of those three teams are in their development/building process

Edmonton will make the playoffs this year imo.

As will Columbus.
