So I came across this petition on Reddit, to put Harry on the jumbotron for the 7th inning stretch instead of guest conductors:

https://www.change.org/p/chicago-cubs-put-harry-caray-on-the-jumbotron-for-the-seventh-inning-stretch?recruiter=74763894&utm_source=share_petition&utm_medium=twitter&utm_campaign=share_twitter_responsive

I thought this was actually pretty great idea, given that I hate the guest conductors. Not that online petitions do jack...Thoughts?

I think it is a terrible idea and the Cubs have already denied it. Like a lot of silly things like this the guest conductor, I am not a fan, but I am also not sure why it riles some people up as much as it does.

Yeah, if they're going to keep doing it (and it really doesn't bother me; the bad ones are the most entertaining, and this really isn't some kind of sacred tradition), I'd prefer it has as little to do with Harry as possible.

Melt down the statue while you're at it, too.

To make a chain for Soler.

Some dude from Wrigley/Cubs was on with Waddle and Silvy yesterday and he claimed 80% of all fans that were polled say they enjoy the experience of seeing a guest conductor. He said people ask whos pitching and then ask whos singing the 7th inning stretch. He seemed to imply there is no way things change anytime soon.

After he had left they had quite a few season ticket holders call in and not a single one had received a questionnaire to answer that question.

ESPN1000's poll of 500+ people was about 80% in favor of having Harry sing the stretch on the big board.

A poll doesn't mean they ask everybody who ever goes to a game. The stretch guest might be something appealing for the casual fan while the season ticket holder is ambivalent.

I know they have polled STH. I remember answering some questions. I can't say for sure that they asked about the stretch, but I would not at all be surprised to be told they did. I just can't remember. It seems like something along the lines of the stuff that was asked, though.

I don't have strong feelings about the stretch, but those aren't any of the adjectives I'd use to describe putting Harry on the video board for it. Not sure why that's considered so ghoulish.

Yeah. Would bother me no more or less than the current arrangement. I'm sure they'd do the video montage well if they did it.

Yep, I'm pretty sure I saw this as well.

mostly 'cause he's dead

the idea of these brain dead morons needing their patron saint to lead them through the stretch cause he somehow truly encapsulated what it was to be a cub fan and experience wrigley is just disgusting.

I don't know about ghoulish so much as monstrous with that slobbering, jowl-y mug being displayed a couple stories high. The could easily induce things like premature labor and strokes.

He's being subtle about it, but I don't think mojo is a fan of Harry Carey guys. But maybe I'm reading too deeply into it. I dunno.

I'm kinda laughing real hard at this

I have a bigger problem with people that worship Harry than Harry himself.

Dahhhh dude he was just like all of us, just loved the Cubbies since birth, liked to get drunk would be sick with every loss.

Guest conductors have been a thing for longer than Harry's career with the Cubs. I say melt down Harry's statue and put one up of Len trying at appear interested in what some d-list actor is trying to plug.
