Jorge Soler 2015: 32.8% K rate, whiffing on 35.9% of his swings going into today, .432 BABIP

Just based off my unreliable memory he has hit a ton of line drives. The whiffs are scary.

Russell!!

33% LD rate according to B-R, 31% according to Fangraphs.

I want the velocity data

I saw a tweet this morning that he and Bryant are in the Top 25 of MLB thus far, ~95 mph I want to say

That's the scary part. LD rate is not a reliable source of long-term offense, and it's basically the only thing he's doing right.

He had much better peripherals last year, which helps a lot, otherwise this would be Lake-ian.

No, it wouldn't be. I'm pretty sure Lake wasn't regularly hitting 100+ mph liners.

Velocity is a shiny new toy, but do we have *any* data on what it means long-term?

But yes, Lake was hitting line drives all over the place for a while.

Hitting line drives is one thing. Hitting screaming super human ones almost every time you make contact is quite another. I don't think Lake was ever hitting the ball this hard with any consistency, hence his low batted ball distances even when he did OK.

I'm letting myself fall way too much in love with the idea that maybe Bryant can play an adequate CF.
