This year's 7th pick should slot in nicely with 2013's 2nd pick(hopefully Appel gets there.) and 2014's #4 pick for a stud rotation.

Can you explain to me what you mean by all of this?

I think the gist of it is that it is ridiculous to slot in "this year's 7th pick" in the 2017 starting rotation, because:

A) The Cubs have been passing on pitchers early in the draft

and more importantly,

B) Slotting in a currently amateur pitcher into a rotation 1.5 years after his theoretical draft is crazy

It's 3 years running that people have assumed we're drafting a starting pitcher to be a fixture in our rotation 1.5 years later.

Its reported that the college top end prospect pool is pretty thin this year... I think i read it on a BA article..

This year's draft is pretty thin in general, and at this time last year it would've been thought to be crazy to draft Schwarber at 4(it was still considered a reach by some on draft day). The overriding point is that pitching is so unstable, especially in prospects and extra especially in prospects with no pro experience, that taking hitters when you're still drafting near the top of the 1st round is a better bet. Even if a draft is supposed to be 'down' for a particular position, they only represent industry guesses that the front office is paid to be smarter than anyway(see Schwarber, Kyle).

Even more ridiculous is that the 7th pick belongs to the Red Sox (we pick 9th).

That's definitely what threw me off. I had no idea which team he was talking about -- the Red Sox, Astros or Cubs.
