Looks like Javy swung at three straight pitches..Were they even in the zone?

Nevermind, I don't know if it was 3 straight. Gameday is saying it was and then said Olt walked on 4 straight pitches.

Think he got up 2-0 and then swung out of his shoes at the next two pitches. Then whiffed on a high FB.

Gameday isn't accurate pitch-by-pitch in spring training. All at bats that end in a ball in play are one pitch, all K's are three, and all walks are four pitches.

According to the scoreboard, the secondbaseman for the cubs is somebody named Dargo.

Drago?

Maddon said he was going to talk with the front office about the benefits of hitting the pitcher 8th when he was hired. I wonder if he's embracing the whole "the best hitter should actually hit 2nd" belief after those conversations.

Zobrist was their best hitter last year, and bear in mind, going into the season, there was a reasonable case to be made that Myers was/would be.

Yeah that's true. Though I feel like Longoria was still "the guy" and he mostly hit cleanup. But yeah, maybe Maddon has already been doing this.

The only bad thing is having to listen to idiot meatballs complain about it.

re: lineups

We are employing the guy who did most of the best public work on lineups, and we seem to be following his theories. Best hitters 2nd and 4th, maybe pitcher 8th. It doesn't make a huge difference, but I like it.

I kind of like that Maddon knows both how to construct something resembling an optimal lineup and knows it matters so little that he'll throw an 867-5309 lineup out there

Kris Bryant BOOOOOOOOMB. Scores Jorge Soler in the process. I could get used to that.
