Baltimore's Eric DeCosta drawing big NFL interest. Jets asking again, after a hard run in '13. Bears unlikely as long as Phillips is there.

Is this some hurt feeling [expletive] because he turned us down last time?

Dumb.

Phillips can't trust an Italian ever since the Angelo era.

Gotcha I read it as it's unlikely the Bears would make the call...

I wonder if Decosta was specifically who they were referring to in the press conference yesterday when they said they were willing to consider a change in organizational structure for the right candidate?

They interviewed him before, so they clearly understand his concerns.

possible fall out from the draft day crap a few years ago?

I doubt they had a specific name in mind. I think they were thinking generally in terms of the types of guys that would require/be worth a change in structure, both coaches and GMs. And they were probably told by Accorsi that they should say something like that.

My thought was that they have reportedly had some GM feelers out there leading up to these firings. Maybe they've identified Decosta as the guy they want to go after, and would make changes for, but hired Accorsi to look at other candidates in case they can't make that work.

No real evidence, of course, that any of that is the case.

That was under Angelo and Philips clearly has no involvement in draft day... I don't think that's it.

So more I'm reading these 4 names were discussing is just the list of three names recommended to Accorsi from the Pollard/minority commission plus Ballard- which already had legs... This may not even be representative of the actual short list...

Right...definitely not a full list. Just the first names that have become public.

Yeah, I do not think it is at all.

They said they hadn't even discussed with him the specific work Accorsi was going to do for them as of the press conference. I would imagine Accorsi has a list of his own and will talk to some other people to get a few more names before presenting them to George and Ted.

Yea for some reason I was thinking the original tweet was more of an insider leak. I mean it's obviously somewhat of a leak, but not necessarily that relevant.

I refuse to give up on the Decosta fantasy yet.

Yea- as long as Phillips isn't the one shutting out the possibility (which the first tweet kind of implied), I think there's a chance DeCosta would have changed his tune from 3 years ago. I hope they make the call.

@DanGrazianoESPN

Giants' VP of player evaluation Marc Ross may yet emerge as a GM candidate in Chicago, but as of now the Bears have not reached out.

If you are DeCosta and are willing to leave Baltimore, do you go to NY or Chicago? I'd think I'd take NY. Even all the financial and location stuff aside, I think the Jets actually have more to work with from a young talent stand point and cap room (and no $18M QB decision).

Part of DeCostas tie to Balt is also due to his wife's family I believe. NY/NJ also works in that favor over Chicago.

On the other hand, the Jets ownership is as odd ducky and untrusted as the Bears, and the Jets have an even more wackadoodle "aura" about them than the Bears have.

Well, Chicago has more offensive talent, and NY has more defensive talent, so I guess it depends on which way Decosta would rather build a team. And as much as Cutler gets [expletive] on, he's a whole helluva lot better QB than Geno Smith. Jets have more cap room, but really both teams have a nice amount of cap room to work with in 2015.

But it's easy to see why the Jets might be more interesting to him.

Oh my God. Tell DeCosta he can do whatever he wants with Phillips.

Exactly. If that's what it really is, they need to at least let the guy know they are willing to be more flexible than they were before. If he doesn't realize it already.
