Robbie Gould doubtful for tomorrow. The Bears signed Jay Feely.

Because the playoff machine is addicting:

Bears playoffs:

1. Win remaining 4 games.

2. Cardinals lose remaining 4 games: KC, @STL, SEA, @SF. Not the softest schedule ever, plus Drew Stanton. It appears Lions will have tiebreakers over us so Lions need to take the 5 seed.

3. Cowboys lose 2 of remaining 3 after losing to us: @PHI, IND, @WAS. Not impossible.

4. 49ers need to lose 2 of these 3: @OAK, @SEA, SD, while winning at home vs Arizona. Also not impossible.

Bears would win a 4-way tiebreaker between Dallas, San Fran, and Arizona and grab the 6th seed at 9-7.

Lions or Seahawks losing their remaining 4 in place of Arizona could also work.

Now that was fun.

That's actually as probable as any long-shot scenario could possibly be. Arizona is probably favored this week, but if they lose they'll likely be underdogs the final 3 weeks. Dallas just got blown out by Philly and the Colts can score with anyone. Switch Dallas w/ Niners, Philly w/ Seattle, and Chargers w/ Colts and the same holds true for #4.

yeah the most difficult part of that scenario is the whole 'Bears win their last 4 games'

I was thinking "wow this could be just like the 1994 Bears team" but it really won't be. That team backed into the playoffs, this one needs to get its head out of its ass and have a miracle happen all at once.

By far.

I now hate the playoff scenario generator. In the last few minutes I managed to find a scenario where the Bears get a 5 seed at 8-8, and another scenario where the Bears and Vikings are the 2 wild card teams. Of course those will never happen, Detroit won't lose out, the Seahawks won't lose out, etc but its still annoying to play around with this thing, and I probably will even more if we win tonight.

Random question: how different does everyone feel about the season right now if the Bears kick a FG to win in OT against the Bills in week 1 rather than vice versa?

Excellent. Preseason, I had them at 6-6 right now winning the last 4 to get into the playoffs. The only reasonably possible thing (i.e. not actually beating the Pats, Packers or Lions) better than flipping that result would be flipping the Panthers result, which would help with the conference record tiebreaker. For as much as they've played like ass, to have expected them to be any better than 7-5 going into tonight's game would have been pretty optimistic.

i'm through with rooting for my team to lose for draft position or for coach accountability, but damn, why couldn't Emery have hired a real quarterback whisperer like Tom [expletive] Clements? Why hasn't he gotten a head job yet?

Probably for the same reasons everyone but the Bears thought Trestman as a head coach was a bad idea.

the thing is, if you want their particular ability, sometimes you have to be willing to give them a promotion in order to get them.

still:

3105 yds/24 tds/14 ints/91.2 rating

if people told you that those would be Jay's numbers after 12 games, you'd be [expletive] ecstatic, right? Jay's not at fault at all, here. barring injury, he's going to finish with 30+ tds and 4,000 yards with around 15-17 ints

Cutler has fumbled a lot, thrown bad ints, and looked pretty apathetic in the season, but he hasn't been the train wreck the defense has been. Or the coaching decisions, lack of adjustments, and MEL TUCKER.

And a lot of times you have to bite the bullet and move on when that person isn't more than a really good coordinator at best and they're not willing to settle for anything less than head coach.

Who just specifically blamed Jay? He's had a solid, though up and down, season, but the offense as a whole has looked inconsistent to downright awful far too often, and that was supposed to be both the team's strength and Trestman's strength.

I think you gotta account for Jays fumbles as that causes a big hit to his overall efficiency over a "normal" QB.

Also re: Clements, I though Philbin was the QB whisperer there.
