Keith Law just put an Insider article up that mentions the possibilities of teams looking to trade for Castro. Doubt there's any real news, but I'm curious to know what he wrote about it. Can anyone summarize?

The Cubs have to move someone for pitching, right? They've got Javier Baez, Addison Russell, Kris Bryant and Arismendy Alcantara all capable of handling spots in the infield -- Alcantara could also take over in center -- which leaves Castro, never a particularly good defensive shortstop, either moving to left field or on the trade block. He followed up his worst year at the plate with his best one, attacking fastballs and putting them in the air rather than on the ground so much. He's a below-average runner who can handle short, but not as well as Russell can (and probably not even as well as Baez would), which makes him superfluous to the Cubs, and, since he's owed just $44 million for the next five seasons, he's a great piece to dangle to try to acquire another starter.

With there being a lack of SS on the FA market maybe someone grossly overpays in a trade for Castro, that's about the only way I see them trading him. I don't get why so many writers seem to think we are in a rush to trade Castro. He's good, he's young and he's signed to a team friendly deal.

@BAnderson_30: If I sign with the Cubs this offseason @BarstoolBigCat roommates?

Saw this tweeted today, found the back and forth between those two funny.

Yeah especially since Alcantara is certainly less offensively, Baez is still a question mark with great potential, and Russell is still at least a year away.

He postulates the Cubs either have to move Castro to LF or trade him. False dichotomy.

Well that's stupid

assuming the cubs have better options at SS and 3b, I don't see why that's such a crazy opinion.

The idea that the Cubs will have better options at 2B, 3B, and SS to force Castro to the outfield is a bit absurd. Between Bryant, Russell, and Baez there's a remote chance, but that requires all 3 of those guys panning out(not overly likely) and all of them being better infield defenders than Castro(extremely unlikely). That blurb can otherwise be interpreted as "Starlin Castro doesn't walk much so I don't like him and implicitly want to see him marginalized even when it doesn't make sense".

I interpreted it as "I'm a stupid moron with an ugly face and a big butt and my butt smells and I like to kiss my own butt."

Right now they don't know if they have better options at 3B, SS or 2B.

that's why i said "assuming." if they don't have better options then it's stupid, but if Law projects them to be better, it's a perfectly cromulent opinion.

Alcantara isn't "certainly" less offensively, but yeah he probably is.

There's a surprising amount of that among otherwise smart baseball people which is really frustrating.

I guess the lack of walks is just that offensive to their sensibilities.
