I think this will resonate more with the Chicago media than the national media. Too many other meatier stories for them.

Rice/Peterson will take the majority of the heat, but is Marshall lumped in with them now?

I doubt it. A lot of the national guys didn't know he was even talking till it was halfway over judging by twitter. There's zero new allegations, yesterday was she-said...today was he-said...but there's going to be no "money shot" ending to this. There's just no payoff for the national media to talk about it significantly. Chicago media on the other hand can make something like this last an eternity until the guy is run out of town.

I flipped on B&B and they are presenting this as a HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE deal. That probably is reflective of your above statement.

Yep...the people losing their crap on twitter are almost exclusively people on The Score and The Game. ESPN1000, less so...cuz he's got a show on there.

That's true. No one is talking about anywhere else. It seems like he said a lot of dumb things, pointed the blame everyone but himself, etc but nothing ESPN.com is going be pasting on their front page.

I'm really confused. Other than showing a letter that said he never hit the girlfriend and that was he being offered claim settlement, what exactly did he say that was unknown to the public? What is causing the uprise?

@mikecwright: Jared Allen, GarzA, Marshall, Ratliff, McManis, Slauson & Scott didn't practice.

@mikecwright: Conte, Jeffery, & McClellin were limited.

Decker didn't practice again.

It kind of comes off as, or can be interpreted as, a battered woman being forced to say she was never hit in an effort to support her man's case with regards to punishment/fines at work, ala the Ray Rice press conference.

Yeah...the press conference was all about him. It was very unsettling, when really nobody was thinking anything negatively of him at this point. The local media has been waiting for a "problem" with Marshall since he came to Chicago. And he gave them something to point at today.

Dan Bernstein @dan_bernstein

#Bears sources tell me the team is dismayed by Marshall's press conf. and feel misled. They advised him not to speak, but he insisted. 1/2

Dan Bernstein @dan_bernstein

2/2 He said he wouldn't speak long, and would be contrite about his past. They really didn't want him to speak, fearing this would happen.

I wouldn't say nobody thought anything negatively about him.

But he was receiving widespread support by Chicago media with respect to how he has handled the bipolar issue.

Sports writers/broadcasters absolutely LOVE when the story is not sports. Every one of these guys wishes they wrote for TMZ. The NFL is just a silly diversion for all of us and I want it to go back to that. If some NFL players beats his wife then put him in jail. Today they were trying to make a story out of some third stringer getting arrested. Its not like going apeshit over NFL players getting charged with assault is going to have some greater affect. There is some crazy mob rule with regards to NFL players commiitting a specific crime. THis is all just stupid and crazy. During all of this mayweather's fight (a rematch of a fight nobody wanted to see made in the first place) still did a million PPV buys. Id imagine the NFLs rating are at an all time high this sunday. Starlin Castro was accused of rape, if that had happened right now, the cubs would probably be suspending him. Its pretty ridiculous that the san fransisco 49ers cant wait until a police investigation occurs before they make a decision on disciplining a player who may be 100% innocent. The NFL does not exist to be the vanguard of righteousness for the world. Im sick of sports getting hijacked by this other [expletive]. People are raping beating and murdering each other en masse, based on that article somebody linked a few days ago it seems like the NFL is actually far cleaner than the rest of society.

He can still save face by coming out and saying he shouldn't have reacted so emotionally.

Aside from the aforementioned reactions I'm actually seeing a decent amount of positive on Twitter regarding the PC today.

Of course that doesn't mean he should have done it.

Hester says he wasn't happy his last 3-4 years in Chicago and sort of implies that Cutler didn't want him as a receiver.

http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2014/09/19/devin-hester-wasnt-happy-in-final-years-with-bears/

I see both sides of this. Hester was frequently lined up wrong, or ran bad routes. And he was the #1 receiver. The coaches utterly failed at using Hester, and I could see how that would be upsetting to Jay.

@MMehtaNYDN: Eric Decker (hamstring) didn't practice. Dee Milliner has added "quad tightness" (along with ankle) for reason he didn't practice today #nyj
