Russell is playing second base tonight.

Apparently he made a couple of amazing plays at 2nd (not that that should suprise anyone) @Cu_As was tweeting from the game, and had some pictures. He went 1/3 with a walk.

CJ Edwards is starting today, along with Addison Russell (DH) and Bijan Rademacher (RF).

@BerniePleskoff: #Cubs Edwards works very quickly. Slows it down w/ men on base. Throwing FB at 92-93, curve at 78, change up at 87. Changes speeds very well

@TGold_PG: #Cubs SP CJ Edwards worked 91-93 t95, good 12-6 CB shape. Quality stuff but lack of str leads to delivery instability, holds back command

@TGold_PG: @JGoro8 chance strength gains by mid 20s allow steady control (then command) improvement to eventually develop as SP. Unlikely but possible

Edwards final line 3 ip 1 h 1 BB 3 K

I'm imagining him coming up in September as a reliever and owning bones in the playoffs.

you stole that from tree (or was it ssr?)

I thought I was stealing it from imb!. I steal a lot of stuff from him.

I think a lot of people have that vision/hope.

Edwards will likely have an innings limit next year that would make him a less likely choice for a call-up, even as a reliever.

For an off the board September reliever candidate, Corey Black seems like he'd be a pretty strong fit. Or if you want to go wayyy under the radar, Zack Godley.

I was kind of limiting it to the good pitchers.

i said it and no one ever thought it before me ever

also if you are worried about an innings limit just assume edwards misses the first month or something. easy peasy.

Today is Addison Russell's final AFL game. He is healthy, just shut down after today's game in everyone's best interests.

uhh this seems weird if only because i don't think we had heard even a hint that it might happen.

Maybe because he's performing poorly and they'd rather just shut him down let him rest up try again in March. Maybe he look tired, couldn't say since none of the games have been televised.

They're not shutting him down because he had poor results in 48 at bats.

How are you so certain? If the results are perceived to be fatigue related, this could be the case.
